are distant memories. Hearty indulgence in the many foods shared at Christmas
& `5 ?: P$ O1 b& Ztherefore doesn't produce the same feelings of guilt. Nevertheless, its not a 5 Z' |& n/ \3 f9 t  _4 O
pleasant thought to start the New Year carrying any extra pounds. So why then - j" y  [- D, |; E) x, F
eat yourself into a resolution to 'take off a few extra pounds' if you can ) _/ q" l$ h' H/ U% o! ?, Q
smartly avoid it?5 R0 I. K$ l& v' q2 q
?Whether it's sharing cookies and candies at work, or having an evening out
; F; A- Q0 ?" L# K6 eat a party or dinner, you can have Christmas food and enjoy it. While you seem
% m+ p. i3 v8 Z; I# I' d& g+ Q0 Mto be eating heartily with a smile, the key is to have a secret strategy of 6 Y7 O  ?& R2 @6 T* ^. n! i
moderation. It involves sticking to a plan that can be called 'Eating on a 3 ]( N' _: Q& F5 A3 s6 _" K. ]
Budget.'

moderation plan is developed because it is almost impossible to avoid exposure " O& O9 U% H6 N1 N
to a lot of cookies, candies and other sweets at Christmas. At work, you may
& ~! j& ~' ?  Z( h9 y' brisk appearing like the Grinch who stole Christmas if your response will always
4 D. u% {/ X- g' s, D. Rbe something like, 'Uh..no..bah humbug' all the time that some Christmas goodies " F9 ^- a% I: x
are offered. It will seem as if you aren't in the spirit of the holidays   W6 q1 F5 i- s0 U! I7 n- P
especially since at that time of year everyone is usually in a festive and more 6 K) l$ J, y$ Y) g! ^  E8 G
relaxed mood, and the pace at work is usually slower.
2 b" [) Z9 i* ]# f/ r/ D?A practical way to partake in Christmas goodies, for example, is to
& U( ?4 Y/ O& F/ b1 J, g/ W$ O* _substitute some holiday cookies for say the bagel that you usually have with , x& I8 @/ }# u% F1 M
breakfast or for a mid-morning snack. And instead of just taking one cookie,
" p; v( C2 P: H5 cfrom the platter, which is noticeable and likely will encourage a colleague to
! q- d, J4 K# V5 rtell you to have more, take three instead. That's where the plan can come into

a cookie and a half by your desk and that way it will seem as if you are

and candies to work to counteract others that are being offered. Since eating
; f( u9 `: ^. N. m) L# n+ Ghealthy is highly encouraged, health-conscious cookies will not be looked down 5 `, l3 z" n+ u; Y! Z/ R( F+ o  X8 l
upon so long as they taste great. A box of sugar-free Christmas chocolate
: V; f# g6 p1 x, F) jcandies for example will look just as delightful as regular chocolate candies. . ?9 y2 V* N3 l" }' j" D1 a
It's interesting to note that in a poll sponsored by the National Confectioners

Dinner, where larger quantities and selection of food is available, the 'Eating
$ [. H& @7 s8 y2 }on a Budget' plan means that serving portions and the choice of food selected % O7 m, r6 Y5 k& p
should be carefully watched. 8 ~; |7 v3 Q. y8 f4 J0 T/ X+ _
At a party where more desserts and sweets are likely to be available, a few of 8 V7 y) m* o1 e
the selections can be sampled. If the urge to try everything can't be resisted,
