1 i4 }1 B: s1 Y, j. U& Z7 ithis multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA # P9 _* M# X4 i, }' y" ?# [' P
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and ( `! D8 a0 ^! r) v$ X( d
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ( ]: M0 B7 J) s; O
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the 2 u; i% M/ \" i9 s% d) n

Responsibilities
5 ~% g$ N8 t" j+ B$ r : H* p+ s9 ^, g( C
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and 8 R5 m  F' f# w) C
execution of the YWCA Strategy 5 Z2 z5 y8 Q/ i  ]5 j7 h0 w

/ o6 B- g' h# R5 n% R. ~- ?Specific responsibilities include:  ! E+ N- }: I  p% S4 O! S- I

9 ]; T/ i% }6 U1 g0 S•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
- k7 z  W$ s, S5 [7 S1 W- ?; ethe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by " ^' @) V- ~2 u' F7 n3 V
the Board of Directors;  
( H/ e. ?5 e9 p+ j0 V. D1 D•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
  T; }2 x2 O" T) vincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 9 }0 {8 T  l" z+ o
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
4 ^; L3 h$ H8 D2 i7 U/ A•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 0 ?( K8 p* B5 h  Y7 b
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
0 I# T1 \4 k# X  k7 p7 Xthe board;  
/ M/ t3 L- u7 h9 E! ^2 C, ?7 H4 d•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  - r4 H# M! G1 {
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
* K2 b. [) h' W& y- z$ U, Cthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
# u+ A) N% B6 c' O) Y( V•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
' }; J$ V: A: U6 o, tchanging needs of the organization and community;
7 d4 ~0 \' ?& X+ e# F8 D  ]•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
8 k7 M; S2 t, ?; G. xcommitments;
+ g% K* a+ f& r! ]  j•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  / ~- E- M9 d7 T
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ! Z* ?( p0 ^0 m
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
5 h# p$ O1 l4 q•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
. }+ v8 G5 W# M$ K+ `•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to
9 _) ^, Y. l& K" v' ~. K: Zeffectively and positively represent the association; & d2 F% `* q; [. R
( u  w- d8 Y- T
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring 7 x# {: o# T9 o
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
2 \! U' s. y3 b' K  L) J. u•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
4 Q' V  }: }, b) @1 X6 T' q" ?' L4 aperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED . i' ^. M' j$ n8 K: h6 v2 c
the forthcoming year;  
- W% g4 D3 c: {% [•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical & w- ^; F# J% ]( p- w. l
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of % E3 N: J7 H5 a1 ~" B
YWCA Canada; and
4 N  }, n7 l% [9 b/ W% j* I, {1 S9 x•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 9 K" w+ J8 `: N# U( A
Forces.

0 k- e9 j( L$ Z; x•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
) l+ P6 A3 @( u; R6 ^•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
: t) M/ N9 w+ M2 z0 {" u: h& F: earound decisions, plans and actions; # P+ }5 L' o( d) Y+ c( |
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
) }( p2 X2 g. {4 l; N•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
3 e0 ]6 G! S' T% v* z, N0 ?and achievable with realistic timeframes; 9 N. b4 R6 ~# k) i
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks
  ^5 x6 e6 L/ X, ~5 g/ N7 p- fsimultaneously; 2 c* Q2 N# K) f* r0 e# k
•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build
6 ]- r; J8 ]. T2 c+ @rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings; 6 c. X9 Y* d: |0 c% c% J
•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
0 [4 K( n% l% T( X" E6 _+ b8 \•  Superior negotiation skills. , `) q; n2 r6 ]

0 p7 B* x* B5 u6 x Required Professional Designation / Certification
- n  \4 b9 `8 w, R2 U+ N; ]•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
3 p. x- c: n3 R2 R* _  w
+ }) f8 u% b* V" x( `* LRequired Experience ' k; O7 o1 {+ k" a1 p
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; 9 V- }8 q. Y- \  ~+ D1 O
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation # p) w5 m9 ^3 Y0 y6 c( h" Z
abilities; . @; O# e! z/ u. A1 X# X3 ?6 Z
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
  o% L4 e6 r* D; f8 E  i% JNetworking and Fundraising; 5 N) C1 ?" h4 I% M: ~8 Q
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
7 Z( Q! r! R9 Z& T6 aand financial statements; and * H) Q% y: j8 I2 G- x
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women   ~/ z" c' J( E5 z
centered perspective.
