The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic
" n7 g9 X6 x" e2 J" R4 p' P$ ithinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead ! `7 y8 N: Z7 k7 u& S( q
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA * _# ~6 C# T; h' o2 O6 _7 b
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
+ z6 Q2 _; z$ n) Y. P& dsurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA ! r: x) V+ c/ I
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the ) I) B6 v/ T% X: M$ @2 v+ N
community the agency serves.

innovative and dedicated Executive Director to join our team.

Responsibilities
- u' I& P* ?& q1 I 0 @2 v% h% N0 Q$ P+ i. ]
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
+ {  Y9 }5 A- z" L1 e8 Y  zexecution of the YWCA Strategy
. M# T: {6 B' v( |, `
% z0 P/ I9 ~9 R% ~' s% k* O* S, \Specific responsibilities include:  
# D) `; t1 x) n( I
/ _! x8 J: h* S$ ^- U) V# L•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of " r# ]* G- D7 F* d8 d. f
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
& z5 C2 l' L9 L+ R  |6 n6 Hthe Board of Directors;  
1 J( M- d. \; u& z* X•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations - W% A; O/ b2 P0 {* d3 I. U
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to : \: _! w5 F; p+ B' S. [
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
  W/ @3 q! |% e•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and $ \! w0 t8 }: \4 r0 U
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
5 S- I3 K' f+ I" ?the board;  / U. h+ L9 q- X7 ]) d/ r5 `
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  - X( b# @' c6 A2 I" A, g  W7 _
•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
( E' W; \4 E) ?6 z8 o# Mthe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
( \! t0 I; r2 X) y4 p  d8 M•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the - b2 M) ~7 o  J* M' T; o4 G6 @
changing needs of the organization and community;
4 h# J* x' J# ?# M- }•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 3 i9 E; d' n& a/ _- U
commitments; % h! t5 p1 a! ^9 U) n
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  7 P9 r7 @; w3 W' e
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
" v3 B& K% @; g% b6 [; d; Aselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
4 Y! P( p) G; m% C' x5 j4 E6 n' g•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
0 S8 W( z4 }) s3 s6 P•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to & A5 M% e5 ]( X9 Q
effectively and positively represent the association;
  b/ y# Y* @3 \% }& o7 L. H8 a
7 N5 D( i2 R! o•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring " j" d! d9 O' r* z! ^
the implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
4 v/ \9 J+ Z& t9 x7 ^- \•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal 6 F4 k' R, q1 ^6 I2 `: X5 p
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED ' m* H" c+ U  H' Y
the forthcoming year;  
7 b  n' Y  J& I" R2 ^1 A•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
" g+ ?8 o2 H! A. \7 ~practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of ' \% \5 y7 a% ]: R2 s
YWCA Canada; and
  Q  M1 h2 ^3 e% }/ Q6 [% V% s•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task

Required Skills & Abilities / U0 B, F& z3 p1 S) ~( c  |# T; s) W
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
6 ?$ w# b/ H, s•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
* _/ g) H6 H- L) earound decisions, plans and actions; + ~6 o9 a; |/ p
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; % g7 f! _( U5 ?2 i, y0 k+ |
•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
2 s6 _4 S+ s# z( f7 l# G1 oand achievable with realistic timeframes;
$ @; B7 Q# U9 C  n: w5 }+ S•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and

Required Professional Designation / Certification 6 ^1 j9 N9 K9 m
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience.
$ ], E9 B" |3 s/ Z1 U
1 B5 Z6 `5 L( a: k  X* @7 rRequired Experience - R: [5 N" Q, b6 a, _# v8 S) @
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
$ m; Q/ ~% a7 o# {; h: `6 D; \•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation ! j" I& t( [. \: u& ]; V# |
abilities;
; r) Q; g; f& y7 ~( i' j•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, ) K2 m$ Z) R. Z- Z. i! c
Networking and Fundraising; 1 d% l) ]9 d8 H7 I2 c
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting " g8 `! p) A6 e% V* p3 a4 O  D
and financial statements; and $ _$ [  `7 t7 ]4 e7 r+ Z
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
+ `5 T6 g* x8 V  g1 s/ a4 Ncentered perspective.
