CALGARY - A fire has halted operations at one of Suncor Energy's two oilsands upgraders north of Fort McMurray, the company said Tuesday.

No one was hurt in the incident which happened after a fire broke out around midnight at its upgrader #1, Suncor said.

The energy giant said the 125,000-barrel-per-day unit was shut down after the fire, and it is currently assessing damage.

Suncor has been plagued by a series fires at its oilsands operations in the past five months, suffering three fires since October in the upgraders which convert bitumen into synthetic crude oil.

According to Reuters, Suncor could not specify how much crude the unit was producing before the incident.

A fire in upgrader number 2 last December took more than a month to repair.

去年12月suncor upgrade 52新区发生大火刚刚修复出油，这次老厂5区又着火停产，真是多灾多难。老点的员工都知道suncor的管理很乱，养懒人。相对syndcrude无论管理和效率都好的多。
