OTTAWA (AFP) — The number of people infected with swine flu in Canada rose to eight Tuesday, after health officials confirmed two cases in the western province of Alberta.

. x6 j0 I# m; }- S( l |"Two cases of human swine influenza have been confirmed in Alberta -- one in Calgary and the other in northern Alberta," said Dr Andre Corriveau, Alberta's chief medical officer for health matters, in a statement.# M- y5 p2 B$ V5 S

"Both individuals are male and have experienced a mild form of human swine flu," Corriveau said, adding that one of the patients already had fully recovered, while the other was nearly better.3 h) S1 _4 _, T% i0 ]& @( e
: {! d& b5 I+ S9 M* [4 B0 N; K"These cases show that our monitoring and surveillance system is working as it should," he said, calling both bouts of the potentially deadly illness "mild."

Officials said neither illness had required hospitalization, and said both individuals contracted the virus during recent travel to Mexico.

The announcement of the increase in the number of swine flu cases came as the Canadian government warned its citizens against travel to Mexico unless absolutely necessary.

The two of Canada's other swine flu cases surfaced in British Columbia, while the other four cases were in Novia Scotia. |
