Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!! u) C) [" \- t( b- w
City of Edmonton, Waste Management Branch' a8 G7 m( `# N

p8 i) d0 X4 ]/ vDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
2 P$ z" r |4 E4 PMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule! k7 B* F% M4 i6 r3 R
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
0 n3 f2 O) g6 e3 g1 E w8 C6 a: uenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
3 \+ f! \5 \# y- r0 Nmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
8 B! C, t; M% B4 s6 \, k7 Hvermin-composting and residential recycling.2 z% S- D# z* t8 t; [0 D/ t0 ?; n
' x% k4 v2 `% s. \3 ~, q' ^
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips5 t0 b7 e/ m( N4 E" I2 l
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
/ p/ V( N& c3 U/ Z* A' W" Z% dcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:5 h5 d" D! E9 _% m" w; u6 H+ S; k
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important1 s% ?+ x( D, c$ J
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the4 Y5 w& y/ h5 ]) r
importance of composting and recycling.

2 k+ K/ _. v1 G5 ]! q M$ ^Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
. W/ Q, P) X* H" L# c- v$ \Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
4 |4 r* Z f' w. e" ]- Q8 dpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and) y) q( ^( k# [( b( O1 N# |3 G- B
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at; j- g+ N5 J6 R# H' Y1 b1 x
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
7 i; C0 A# G; U( i4 ?7 K! C* f$ nvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
' L( b, p& L0 r; K' ^8 _most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your0 V+ o* w8 i X& D. Y
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
