Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

' Y- O6 B& H9 _9 y; K) pDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the; Q1 d. z8 A: n% h: Q8 @& p
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
1 }/ v, ~( r) M' Z(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about8 W+ \' G( E. K$ E' x! \
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
( y& V" c3 ?& k! W( hmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
- @% v" G+ k& overmin-composting and residential recycling.
2 {: q# _0 p, u- l9 E& P6 O% F- Z2 i0 \# X
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips) h( n* C+ w6 b; g- o4 b; Y
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
- x; E) D5 q* i, v# Ncomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
" C2 }$ h# G4 K; n. E# Wreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
8 r% R+ h2 z- G! Kresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the! _. o" T0 Y- [. f6 U- V
importance of composting and recycling.' R0 V1 Z& r$ u# h9 l
) ?, }3 l9 V- l* ?0 P: iExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the F% B; I8 ]- g. }) W& A7 T
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;: D0 E# @! L( r2 S% z
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
! p+ @0 c& Y O: U7 Ymaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at2 S, h! g7 j) n* h7 b
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
9 H0 P, h6 }4 \& _% f" V3 [& Dpresentations.7 X) ]% ~% W6 w1 O, _( i( e

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and8 e# ~0 A9 ~" _2 ^
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
! ~" x' N, C( O5 Mmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
