Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
3 ]5 C% u1 b/ H, aMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
9 S! j6 q9 i4 t4 T" H$ D(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about3 D' W4 Y2 u1 s' O8 f8 p4 m
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
6 U$ |$ K7 j$ F/ F( j7 r: umanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;' b. ]2 E7 A3 ?
vermin-composting and residential recycling.
f! h& M- T- m! Q! Q3 Q2 O9 D$ A7 c0 O
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips' P7 f0 t, x" l* G& C I
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates D( R0 F/ I* V
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
5 |/ d- Q* u( S. Xreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important1 P- ]/ |6 R) l n, }0 d8 [
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
9 H: q# [0 r [- F' d9 w0 J" \7 himportance of composting and recycling. i, \) P9 m5 E6 C5 O
) _- u, W/ h8 ZExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
9 ~4 `- s4 F% }/ L+ Z2 i5 o* QReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
( J: v4 R9 A; x) q: i" fpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
% j' p7 R5 K$ J/ g& B, kmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
4 ~. T9 b: r5 V% F' Rvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
# v- ?2 P% y0 ?presentations./ i% s$ f: D6 r0 B. j2 ^2 v$ X, y
& Q K* }/ H8 Y$ U' l) \There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and9 f, O% R: f8 }6 b% |
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
: t: h3 d5 j# ]* fmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
( c/ Q" ^+ h. I2 f7 qknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master G- j4 w* W$ n& c* S" J0 z% N
