Description: The Neighbourhood & Community Development Branch is seeking a Social Worker for the Assessment & Short-term Counseling Team (A.S.T.C.). The A.S.T.C. Team is made up of 14 Social Workers & is centrally located at Circle SQ. The team responds to a variety of issues including relationships, worries over children/teens, domestic violence, financial stresses & housing concerns.

Key Tasks - The successful candidate will report to the Director of Targeted Community Services and will: respond to citizen calls at a centralized phone in service; provide in person assessment/counseling to help clients identify strengths, family supports, and available community resources; take a holistic, creative approach to arriving at solutions.2 Q2 c6 B$ g; X; H& H) }9 o
& H4 M; g% t8 @0 P" mIn addition: collaborate with team members to develop/implement models of best practice in Social Work; facilitate drop-in/registered attendance groups for women and/or men who have experienced domestic violence to help them toward developing healthy relationships, personal dev., and making positive life changes; participate in the City's disaster social services response team; other related duties.8 J1 w" [( I& U* p! }4 ~: l. o6 i5 l7 t
* \ ^7 n `2 H& g. R U5 XJob Requirements: a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. A Master's Degree in Social Work is preferred; a minimum of (3) years professional experience in the provision of social services involving individual/group programs, family counseling & organizational and/or community work.

5 v1 k- P- d( `# d% `2 G5 VPLUS: excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills; sound knowledge/experience in assessment, the use of short-term intervention approaches & preventative services; ability to listen non-judgmentally and comprehend with empathy/understanding; ability to think creatively and be flexible; experience in providing services to men affected by family violence is an asset. |
