Edmonton — Homicide detectives are investigating after a woman was found dead in a west-end apartment yesterday morning.

Ambulance personnel were called to the building at 9023 184 St. at around 4:20 a.m., found the body of a 50-year-old woman inside one of the suites, and called police.% O8 `. U z) I: C$ v# X3 l3 ^

Investigators have not released the cause of death, but are calling the death suspicious.2 E6 x6 l0 t0 ?: m" t

Police say the address is known to west division officers, who have responded to the suite several times in the past for family-related disturbances.

Yellow police tape surrounded the entrance to the eight-unit, three-storey tall building as tight-lipped EPS officers walked in and out of the home throughout the day.6 V- j1 K& z* L' V1 H

A twisted samurai-style sword lay on the ground a few steps from the entrance, the only sign of anything amiss in the quiet complex.) H/ A8 p4 D2 ^8 e. Q6 A

Though neighbours say they did not hear anything yesterday morning, some say the neighbourhood is less safe than it used to be.: a4 X' H* v+ S0 p6 X* m

“My granddaughter is 20 and is scared to go out,” Joan Harvey said while visiting her relative yesterday afternoon. “I’m scared for her.”& `# S: l4 r4 N# E0 I: w7 S$ s

Ciara Harvey said she wants to move away from the neighbourhood, just blocks away from West Edmonton Mall.
