Duties

( b2 A8 S, K: Q" n( U2 R * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
9 f/ ?3 ]3 |7 d2 O5 n; o; n * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group( f7 V: `! a1 n7 L# H/ h
* Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators7 j8 ]0 \0 u, d$ i
* Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
* M3 ^1 U. F5 V, C9 R * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director/ E$ H6 S' A7 C4 p( U
* Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses# F& b p1 p! K4 ~/ [% d
* Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth

* Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment1 f' T( K" C) A1 W W
* Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
9 ? Q& j4 S' P6 g * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs. n- D2 Y, ?& ?! l5 ?$ t
* Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
/ U# n) j: k7 d" e# ^% r/ l * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities

Qualifications4 O( ?! x; N4 x: K0 K$ Q/ p ^; Z
: Y2 J$ K$ g; P/ v4 g * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline6 k' H. a) e6 X. f
* Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth0 m( U' E! E: @9 W0 V6 P9 J8 A
* Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies8 Y! V1 J, w) }9 w [. V: p- `
* Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs
- ~6 V; k& v9 z- V5 [# [ * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community0 E$ M, p9 m- |! H( P
* Fundraising skills an asset& w1 @7 Q; W) {& j& S
* Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
( @- }' Z1 G8 z7 e$ L * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills

* Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
