Duties

    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region
0 b7 w* Y7 H; e2 f    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
+ |& c# T3 z" o    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators
) i/ S8 N% Y1 l( i! V  h% I  P0 Y    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations) s, a' N8 k: O1 ?5 z' Z- b) V3 k
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director8 g! O# u4 [0 S! D
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses% l* J0 n# T: C4 t% T
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth( c3 w, w5 o2 g0 Z9 T5 |' q
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program
  j6 l  t7 w4 O7 s- t0 I* h% ^2 a    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment3 P& }# L/ S3 E& \4 q
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
+ j  h2 N( A( e0 i- h+ E( l    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs
! j% T! ?) U0 p. W7 z* [- N" H/ U    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly. S( ]+ [* t- A  A5 t
    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities( ^$ c, W1 ]" I* b
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline( i) b4 R( }7 C# C) l) a0 U+ s, ?' z
    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth5 G9 P) w2 _7 P( \" W6 n
    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
  x# d* I1 S2 W" m, B% R' X1 V    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs- D& Q# r& D$ ?% I: Q7 \4 H
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community! @/ ]0 f) Y, V+ t8 i
    * Fundraising skills an asset# {# N" c- r* U. d
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills

    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
; j( Z8 V  p$ C- v) a9 b* h    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills6 ~1 B) n4 F  x' z7 `/ _/ _3 Z# E& k
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset, [( \+ l6 ?3 L+ Z5 p3 h
