& O+ K( {% I) Y0 JThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.7 a1 F6 k$ L9 W3 J' K* O. \8 W; N
, |4 e, V8 k9 h" g' W3 c5 W1 oThe project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:

• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”: o8 K0 ~( q5 c
• Interpretation and translation services

The Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement
. I# Z- [! D; K& V, f3 Hguidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign' P! A% |. \. ?# Z0 E. w: x
Workers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and
; F: Y$ e, h, w% u" asupportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.6 l& o5 _! n M, c( k* Z
, y8 o9 J+ c, _3 O, s0 dThe Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and, d, D, e9 J# f$ J8 @
orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.
4 ]$ g5 ]/ f' g: r, R6 XWorkshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and$ y% Y; L7 T* I3 k2 `) B) O" ]1 t, v
community based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is

implementing solutions for TFW facing a variety of challenges. It also involves

Responsibilities
7 z( }5 g! |5 A3 u• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals
) C% j8 D {% `! F' J4 `( y5 i% [• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
* N0 M, q( }9 a1 w) a& z: ?• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office
( w1 N% q0 S: m2 ?' \• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required2 r0 X( Y+ {$ p% `5 [+ D
• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment# f" t/ E2 Y9 \; \
• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services
) j- L3 `4 t( ~• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency% T' }( O8 ]- Y1 Y( T
• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW ) T0 {7 ~( o' B# L
• Promote English language services for TFW and employers' w/ s- d* H' x) K; ]
• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required7 S8 E' [- O, V2 C. v$ ]
• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers
9 V- W7 y. M" Q# t) E4 p8 D. u• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:
d7 B* R! z# X: Y; a3 z1 m6 E8 d• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
9 e; M! _4 X& y4 Q, |• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
; z3 O7 I/ [- m1 ]* h, x• Excellent written and oral communication skills1 E" Y0 o) g: M" h3 L4 }, Z! \
• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
' T, I* {6 J4 O, k/ w6 i: ]• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making

• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
