This is a temporary position for approximately 11 months.  Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada at the time of their application.9 [. _; K6 |0 t* @- b

C  @2 v4 F) ]/ ?* z( ^As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

* [, Y# f# z' M( A1 |Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
  A' h: n6 U8 e9 |•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment; h) h7 Z4 i/ U' V; y' U/ j
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements, x8 p; U+ V8 Q, G; P6 J. j
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
8 W& }' v) {8 n" R•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
; k8 r/ _* P: Y3 v•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers

8 G1 ]8 v. \- p3 S- w•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline" [+ y; V( l9 _9 H8 |* r
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset% W1 V% |0 C% ]' I
•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
4 \9 w& ]& g, E5 \/ T+ i& K•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems  ]9 S( e, H9 F1 K1 w" T/ M
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets* B  R$ w# m1 Z  T: B
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
( H9 @. r9 Y6 X- e# P5 R6 Y* X$ j•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST6 F' s" M3 R, X: S
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills5 Z' |, @5 Q6 x4 V' |
Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. & J/ J1 y) b9 I3 a, y- k
