As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

0 Z: M, ` N! ~) ]- N! y, D% ZReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:* _% J% U, { q: j
• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
/ W5 V8 ^' e% g# S% I. A% o6 u• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
7 m# w3 p6 s( u8 c6 l( N• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module
5 Y0 ^) F- i. I8 f• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's4 k/ b) X/ Q2 x: n U5 N! k* ?5 G
• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 7 T; n: n) X9 W( S/ w" Q
Job Requirements:
# c9 y4 S. r3 V5 `8 {. I8 x- p- a• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline/ X3 P7 B- q, z! x. f2 L
• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset/ |3 a ]. ?3 x9 D+ F; ]+ E- {
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience6 e( F8 y9 x4 C9 |
• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
K& M# ^1 X% l• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets% d, {; g$ W4 ~
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies5 O$ A9 G3 j! V5 w0 D
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST
9 K* K( M! W z8 n1 C( j• Excellent verbal and written communication skills" a# k7 P6 h4 p; i' C
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. $ I6 n- P1 k- ?$ g
Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
