May 9 2008 - Statistics Canada reports that the unemployment rate rose to 6.1% in April even though employment increased by an estimated 19,000 over the month as more people entered the job market. Calculated in the U.S. manner, the participation rate reached 64.5% in April. . ?- D! _/ l; C2 @/ j+ o+ B

Seasonally adjusted, unemployment rates vary from 13.2% (Newfoundland and Labrador) to 3.3% (Alberta). . G/ B8 ~/ f8 n% P+ R- i
