The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
0 s/ @7 R3 z9 x0 @, q, D• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

% l; T  L! ~+ p2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
0 n) C& O: w  ]9 |  j1 U- n• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

5 f( j# p) c" J( `0 d• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

; z1 Y9 G7 A  {Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
