The VERTO Project

$ g9 P( t* A0 B' U9 m$ g/ Z" b4 Vbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
, j" p3 f) a+ m4 |2 eemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
- u x! `/ c& h$ Lprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
( o+ `& F! K* Y" T/ hstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
. }! u$ N* c/ ?2 Q1 yYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
7 @( c# z+ N$ C4 P5 o3 }' Zmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve$ z2 U# d, j0 y9 [7 g' H1 c4 g
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
& N! }; V4 U [6 UVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills* i t' f8 p0 A4 [- m
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
$ R X/ w$ |9 S2 Y) p& E* Y wyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose( M/ G R$ R; e
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment8 C6 S- }7 W* ?! x z4 f
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
* A1 t' T9 Q7 d; J& N W }exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
/ W$ d* ^2 M6 _8 _! Rwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a4 `/ q# g( v4 l/ W4 w( j4 K; c
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
. A! Q. \, t3 Z, I/ A" W% g. wThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central. F. ]$ x7 z# _+ A( r2 @! f
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
. A ~9 ~7 m* f4 @4 i$ y, lThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of- }, U/ N: j3 P* H

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the% @) q2 w7 r9 f u5 m$ @
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
, n& m8 t# |, W" V3 u2 Awilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities0 J T5 u$ g6 Q; ~+ e" w
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as$ x1 G8 ?* P4 r8 k# Q+ ^% P0 `5 G" s
being realistic to each youth participant+ l7 M% j/ ~% R# F/ a4 F3 t% }- E
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the8 O: s) B5 @6 Y# V1 _1 I
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
( ]" Q- u1 i: j" O6 r) leach participant
! z" \; i. | K. t! b• Assist youth with employment development including the development of3 S+ P9 h" H2 _7 e1 f8 p9 o
cover letters and resumes etc.7 m5 d( @0 ~ s3 [' _7 X
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work1 M" _3 |% X. ]/ c9 p
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
0 [6 J& M4 O( B0 bplacements
! ]6 s' _& q9 U8 e: b7 q" Z% Q9 M• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
" I, [+ |" i' K2 R: ?; Jthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
) f6 X6 O: d$ d2 t3 m. L! W• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
& @8 V1 o8 w+ g0 ?4 Pis being fulfilled for each youth5 U) q+ F2 Q1 U8 u
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
" g4 K6 v& i, q2 S* |: Lrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer1 m2 E* | h+ g& D8 A& P0 \ Z2 e, D
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted3 i3 V! i2 _# c0 n& }
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
