The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
$ h5 G- o6 G9 Tbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
1 i8 T4 |# \5 o' v6 ?) Qemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
% a$ X* I7 _5 C6 P( H3 i8 sprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
8 g8 ^; f6 o/ k4 g7 [) zstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.; k- x0 Q% _2 J
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our: U+ r! y% c+ `( S! c1 _% @2 I
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
& U' R7 K9 c0 |' f! Uconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the4 F' Y" r! J v- z2 `
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
5 d) v( h7 l/ Pnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
+ E0 k5 P" R) Lyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose& D' Q `* ^. b- K; W1 K2 M A
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
0 [0 w6 _* H' r7 }development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and1 k8 k5 S9 V4 ^; e4 [3 g1 F
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and! W# u7 i. |5 B; d' n7 i2 |0 A
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a; I6 f5 N+ ^- X+ Y3 d
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.$ C E- A: Y1 i
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
6 l9 n( y+ b0 @% `5 t% QYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
, i3 G9 o- ?. MThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
! P2 r# z4 x, yextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
( D. ~( q/ _+ o: [willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
- X+ x r. ~0 l, [1 m, m• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
1 ?! [; }7 m9 [' H! f9 a4 bbeing realistic to each youth participant7 D8 H5 U( Z- c9 i/ E" t$ L
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
6 f/ g0 A5 U( e! Syouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
; \) ?9 K' y" h; {1 g' V' leach participant5 ^) A# C0 T' g) h, ?# j
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
2 g# h4 _1 W8 ncover letters and resumes etc.0 ?9 G" t x$ i
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work0 ~) B) {! n3 l6 n" e
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
8 w$ c W/ ]# n6 [- Bplacements7 O9 [% f) r2 F1 K% \6 v- x
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
4 Z1 h# ]- ~$ O- {8 O. O- ethe process, and supporting the youth where needed# P7 F3 g3 o" u- b' E; F0 [
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
! }. \( T; q% O, _3 vis being fulfilled for each youth: B9 S: K( j. S5 f
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are8 w# {# T) I' ~
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
) d# f7 g& w1 m Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
0 A5 M. N' S' Q- q l A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.# T0 D; l/ F# W" ^ p
