The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
# z% a! s9 W" X7 wemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
$ J1 L9 Y6 b( r, F2 B+ G7 y. Zstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
5 b6 v( w0 b+ h/ D, H2 {YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
2 [6 t* j$ n3 a' P" Wmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
4 }5 R8 N! O: F7 A% u& _/ S5 E- @; }conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
" X4 M- b$ w7 n8 n2 {- cVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
( R/ O4 n0 j# q6 nyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
7 b6 z+ P+ m1 hdevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
) Y6 A5 M7 ?$ d$ rexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
0 {3 w% Y9 ]6 P2 P  f: ~wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
  S+ E0 J) E8 S7 l4 r1 Y6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
4 ]* ~' u1 F5 {0 RThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
# ?' X/ _! U6 m9 K2 U2 }9 p% W5 w  Abeing realistic to each youth participant
, p, B' T) e0 }4 @• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
; x- [1 H2 a0 p- U) J7 Iyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
1 D+ t6 b' s! c! C) P. Meach participant
' n/ {- H. G- B& P• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
1 [' f; `6 M- }% `cover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
placements
2 w9 C6 p3 T6 i4 }• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
0 [" h* `! {: J: S0 gthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
* a3 i; u1 l; U# R• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
2 m5 U7 X) E) Z6 zis being fulfilled for each youth
4 k' c& y( j. b) n0 `- y/ ?5 t/ F• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
Experience Required: Employment Developer
2 J' z! Y2 w0 y3 C5 A' D Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
) [7 x  x3 K3 D5 T Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
to success.
 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
" G' e: F  d! ~9 B, l* R Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
time management.
 Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections
quickly
1 c' f, L) ]8 e6 E6 n, H Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth
 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
1 {' w  w4 q) J) V% }  _at risk as it pertains to employment
3 x* Z) i1 ~# j1 g7 h Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
8 O8 @+ P# Y- `8 G2 Y Strong leadership and active listening skills
 Ability to motivate youth
