The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will1 w5 P% y0 w, C
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
& d& f" h& T4 X% N+ @employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
. u( I! }( a; Z, s( E9 N1 Nprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
+ R" a& y" _- v- K/ istands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.2 A- u1 |3 h/ c* `
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our% x* L, P7 m6 h* I- @+ n. @8 ?+ ]8 E
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
5 R" A/ a5 A4 s8 iconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
1 J% W0 y$ O9 @7 g$ ?VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
9 {4 v- b% F3 ?8 b+ b- Z# Dnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
% W; R6 D* z# r% kyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
9 _( K( N, A8 Iparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment+ k, V& `. a% I
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and& R$ g: P/ f- ~
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
' ~ H5 k4 @5 Ywellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
, W) t, V" F( D1 C. p. A9 R6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed./ k; R2 A) m0 ?# Q
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
! g; Q) _6 |# M! o. N* bYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.0 g8 W/ B; i h; s: |3 J9 D" E
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

1 y% T7 ?) a! R1 QEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
5 P3 U0 I' Z8 n• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the' p/ n8 y6 M9 }! H
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are1 G) S% }) X% i( x( u
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
7 y( H) e7 }7 Z0 B( h- B2 L4 [4 _• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as5 [/ ^. `2 m( q
being realistic to each youth participant: |) r1 h" G6 E
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the5 C2 Q3 R! V: H# _9 A* i: n6 C
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to' @( n9 i* d$ l
each participant
* _* F6 L( M. \. ^' g4 |• Assist youth with employment development including the development of6 y( q4 u5 l' v2 X
cover letters and resumes etc.
- [5 h8 j8 F8 Q' P• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
( _" D& c6 @* p8 f! ]3 y m( aexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
9 r6 R; g3 u. v! T. r. y1 a! aplacements8 k d( a1 m# P+ h
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating4 R, A; s/ ^: }) l
the process, and supporting the youth where needed; U2 \: f$ Q, S- F* V
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach; `) M. ?' @/ u/ y3 ] F' P2 m
is being fulfilled for each youth
2 Q- Q' U" [, \4 G( c6 Z& @• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are

• Other tasks as they arise within the position

 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted! W6 O' B7 [8 b8 G3 H$ J
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
