The VERTO Project
6 v5 C- U0 d+ S; S$ E* F* PThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
0 D* N/ F- Z' Z2 H& G) hemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
0 A0 p% B+ u: y8 G& ~. q, |$ a2 |stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
8 d+ g* X7 W; i) e( d# cconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
( N$ j4 w( O9 ~4 RVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
& s5 K: I# E/ I' yyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
1 S9 z( M3 A8 H4 O6 |# I+ Wparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
- e8 x( M7 g) n6 o3 X+ Fexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
5 {& M; h: F& h0 B9 A! X, o( x& lwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
5 z* z. j8 j! v6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
. @6 W+ }3 K/ I- S+ SThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
$ h) N1 T( B) I' |5 iextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
! _4 U6 ^7 I! f- r8 R" y( M1 gcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
& o. S8 e, r# v) ^  s* ywilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
being realistic to each youth participant
) i$ N7 ]& g( d/ ~" u9 ]) E• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
( ?0 e* S2 @4 Q% n1 ~youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
$ {' W5 f+ y7 Peach participant
: {: V" X' [5 o• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
cover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
, M# Q5 b- S3 w" H7 [0 Dexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
/ U8 h: n# r- |/ e: N( \+ \7 A$ Xplacements
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
is being fulfilled for each youth
$ h1 N+ M" }7 T5 A4 ^$ E4 q  Y4 v• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
% K' _! ^  i9 d9 G" yrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
Experience Required: Employment Developer
: [/ @% U8 s; B: C, D- z" K Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
* @+ q- B3 K* Z1 W2 d! v) b Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed
to success.
 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  d- n6 }6 R( r/ [# z# \  a Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
& f* t; k2 M+ x+ I4 @( C: Otime management.
' z5 H# K& X( B& r. ?  n, z Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections
quickly
 Strong skills in building relationships with industry and youth
 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth
) J5 E8 y! R3 aat risk as it pertains to employment
4 U7 g, i  L6 V  J0 a% T% n Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
. T$ U  I$ G5 F' i" o) w9 q. b Strong leadership and active listening skills
 Ability to motivate youth
