$ N, ?7 h; U6 U! [. H& Cbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based( l5 |* x5 h. S% i- L7 Y0 P
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
5 R9 a. a: F2 [- G2 O; kprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that) l, q$ G; `' x: ?+ C- g
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
0 g4 a: n+ t% D$ o% hYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
- P$ p t) O- @4 T4 _( h$ cmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve; L2 [5 w) J. j; S, G. o3 b
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the8 E% h" g5 \* G9 w" l% t
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
0 e; G+ a( h& s2 tnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve8 D t. f2 k4 f, J4 x
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
- d9 {+ A0 n. bparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment) `6 T* o& d6 |# |! k1 f. w
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and, {, u7 R6 `) Q2 i* M' M) v
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and& s4 C8 |" i5 I+ e: U7 i
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
+ x4 f. ?( u6 z$ t \* }6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.. F( f6 s8 y3 R l5 @" L' @3 L
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central1 J% ~- u* `6 B- D% _
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
, V. A% f& \! Ycommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are" u; V" b, e' I, o. s2 A6 a
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
8 Q& L' O8 `8 k5 L, g4 K! F h0 f• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
% z. A% m9 d3 y* `being realistic to each youth participant i1 @1 C1 `* \7 B8 ~, h0 s# D( j
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
3 g, g5 f9 c# r0 v( w1 ^/ r. f: \youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to5 `6 ~0 o ~/ z( J: v* n
each participant7 J) z; o2 _+ |' x1 e1 x
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
! t8 [9 I3 r# W' Lcover letters and resumes etc.
S9 i+ v: a6 j0 s• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work' `- @# P( y, X5 d, |
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
8 l/ x" R5 p. Yplacements4 ~# x: Z0 k5 C0 Q: ~
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating( Q f: s5 V& x3 T$ W" N9 y
the process, and supporting the youth where needed& c& g/ Y% D8 Y, n" F
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach4 D" M8 a& t: B, u+ Z- |- {* [9 ?2 m
is being fulfilled for each youth
2 f3 f) @3 j* G' v" I1 \• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
4 b+ U& l; t9 U$ Lrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer
; F; P, k/ W5 F, Q+ @* E Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
# ?& }( B: t) U8 h2 _ A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
