The VERTO Project
* P: M1 C( A3 h3 ^The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
8 }. J0 y5 z/ d3 `& jbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based. J/ C5 }1 R* p* ]3 Q j: Q
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day9 B( h7 L8 b G) }. N* k- N5 K
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
# s0 P% s; X6 p0 E: c6 Istands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence." }$ G* Z( d- l8 \% O7 ~' P
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our: |0 e0 }4 ^$ a v" Q d& |1 `5 o
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve% o' }7 v W9 d: _& W
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the& r% N' |/ t1 O% C, i
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
9 o5 u! ]! T/ E+ t" inecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
4 c0 M1 r9 j) W$ P0 x0 ?! Jyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
" [' ?( h4 W% d/ h8 x( H- z2 n0 oparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment* |+ n7 c1 m) p9 k3 F+ u/ h/ O
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and) L3 v8 e8 B6 b
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
, ]9 d$ V5 h' R( Qwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a6 f5 j! @1 O# T
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.

The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
" O+ j$ k2 ^, B+ |9 j• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the& s2 e9 K/ f) i
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are9 T' b' P7 l* h/ c
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
( S M" M W- ~7 D& ~• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as& `3 F2 y3 ] K: H
being realistic to each youth participant
' o5 i0 Z/ x2 E w; l• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
) m, }! t- U. v! j1 a$ k% F- Uyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
, Y! d( p0 s# Z/ Geach participant
* J3 _- o s: @0 J& E• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
. \) ~2 _+ z. w! O8 s. z0 g! {0 @cover letters and resumes etc.
; C/ f9 U, f9 B- {* x• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
2 c' G9 c, l2 t5 v1 F& Yexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
! w8 p1 L( a7 G- K% d- l% vplacements# b( {5 m/ Q& I" G+ {! v3 R* [; N
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating. _* Z, }- b& X8 t
the process, and supporting the youth where needed, @8 E3 p5 c5 l' T+ L
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach9 |5 c9 `2 D$ U3 M4 Q. ?* g9 M
is being fulfilled for each youth* B4 ^) X( {+ j* M# z6 k. }" ~
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are5 x# j! m9 A- c. Z# g! N3 Q
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

7 T" K0 O5 @6 A' R; m Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted2 u( c1 ]( s/ b. B" K- H
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.7 I4 _( i [9 _# w8 m

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
