When we were called the Sick Man of Asia, we were the Yellow Peril.
% y. G# S+ [3 i8 F7 d, w8 MWhen we are billed to be the next Superpower, we are a threat.

. w8 d" ^. _/ c. AWhen we closed our doors, you smuggled drugs to our markets.
8 T, y7 h( l; C: f' k7 bWhen we embraced Free Trade, you blame us for taking away your jobs.

1 n+ f4 v7 b8 M  XWhen we were falling apart, you marched in your troops and wanted your “fair share”.
When we were putting the broken pieces together again, “Free Tibet” you scream, “it was an invasion!”

8 F! t3 [) A4 ?# OSo, we tried communism, you hated us for being communists
+ m* _& l% v6 T+ F& hWhen we embraced capitalism, you hate us for being capitalists.

6 c2 J4 e# Z1 FWhen we have a billion people, you said we were destroying the planet.
When we tried limiting our numbers, you said it is human rights abuse.
; B8 l) Y" ?6 a% v( P( L1 O; v) ^
6 C7 g% x6 o" w  S4 oWhen we were poor, you thought we were dogs.
9 N( T9 {# B; w% {1 gWhen we loan you cash, you blame us for your debts.

When we build our industries, you called us polluters.
When we sell you goods, you blame us for global warming.

8 a$ X' z( Q; G: H4 o! z) wWhen we buy oil, you call that exploitation and genocide.
When you fight for oil, you call that liberation and democracy.

When we were lost in chaos and rampage, you wanted rule of law for us.
. x  Z3 @1 E8 n8 o5 t5 OWhen we uphold law and order against violence, you call that violating human rights.

# L) [. y1 v. r7 zWhen we were silent, you said you want us to have free speech.
+ h) l/ X- ]+ `) ^' L" g) J! sWhen we were silent no more, you say we are brainwashed racists.

- `* V1 f/ m" j! TWhy do you hate us so much? We asked.

“Of course we do,” You said,
“We have NBC, CNN and BBCs…”
