5 m# y0 l6 T* Z' T1 iCALGARY — Screams filled the air after a 17-year-old teen was killed after being struck in the head with a pickaxe at a house party.

Neighbours said about 100 teens were at a house in southeast Calgary when the attack happened in a detached garage about 11:50 p.m. Saturday. . E' M- z) u' ~& r7 ]

Lisa Poole, who lives two doors down from where the teen died, rushed outside when she heard a lot of screaming.

Friends identified the dead teen as Matt McKay, 17. ! {: D- l" W$ q7 ^# D

Chris Briggs, who grew up in the same neighbourhood and was friends with McKay, described him as nice guy and avid athlete. 6 l" K- M* v% }

“He was a pretty good guy,” he said. “He played hockey with my friends, he was huge into hockey.”

“The kids have been fairly co-operative and forthright.”
