Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.7 ^9 B* O7 }5 j% @/ @! |

FUNCTIONS:
7 |1 g4 k' k7 D% w0 ?•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
9 t  c3 |# I6 A•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
* c& h: P& g  M! W, A, A•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.+ j  o; u! D3 }& e' K4 E- a6 C
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather # M- C9 Z. x# c# y( T6 o* a/ o" V
and traffic conditions. ) B8 K( A# q, [0 [* g
•        Adhere to schedules.# w! E8 O$ o9 U9 i6 D- |
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. ; ^* \9 |4 Y; M. E$ J
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.3 h( S6 s2 H5 Y0 E! E: k
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.0 t0 d- k# U' x4 y
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
! U2 M, @0 p8 a•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
7 ]8 K0 b# L( T& K6 T•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
, y, P; p( @. N1 Rto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger . ]0 Q1 y& H: e/ i: R  [
of the day.
! P. @2 `! R' U0 M5 J: V•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).9 _3 U# u% g1 S- \: _' y4 O
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
9 r( p) {3 H# R) I( j•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.! i. b; Z2 x5 e
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) % L" M* a) j$ I; z* V( M8 y
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
$ C) x: T% Z- U$ v. z, S•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
) i3 P% X3 W  ^& R, Z. P( lvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).6 q" f7 s4 X7 X$ }
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
0 g& l4 n; n$ i; B! Z* S•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.- W4 [& }; h3 j5 ]% ?, t1 E/ i1 ?/ T

HOURS OF WORK:
) h4 P( [" i2 o" D9 ^Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
5 P; g( }3 Z9 q/ l2 F1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
8 }0 z/ }. m  S# r: KThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
+ C/ ]3 S' A, }, l# g& O! E) a8 A
SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
9 }: B! t3 ^, l) sTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
5 |0 M  z3 s/ u7 B2 M+ w2 l  PPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
