Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

1 F8 E/ A( }9 k4 P+ {  @FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
: L) `* O' e% b8 p•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
* X* N% N! t3 b3 m/ q; C2 A: \+ |•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.

9 u' w5 {9 Q, b* c' |( e2 H•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

5 R2 l3 M& _' B; E. E( f•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
* ~; l4 X. \5 ^- k7 a•        Provide excellent customer service.

1 i/ a: Y) A5 ^/ R, ^6 ^" dJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
. o! {0 y/ Y' l6 f& `•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
- ^, l9 ^! ~. Xto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
- W/ m+ F' H  x•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
4 ~' m( d  u8 gshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
" t7 S3 @' c3 `) d•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
  v$ n! ^5 v* H6 a. n% ]1 W•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

/ p# ^: Z9 z6 UHOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1 O7 h, d( H$ V1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
5 ~) w/ O# v' o# H+ ]+ m; n) d6 GThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

6 D# `- q" j, Q( j8 \SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
6 B3 y5 b) L9 u% t9 g! d% M' DThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
