Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
% k: M* `1 M, J6 ^6 ?% m•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

- e$ @  u8 E/ A) r  Z•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
, F8 T& Q! t+ Z* O9 }+ s& c•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

. V0 S% K* h/ z•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
6 p% N. X1 Z; c* k. x•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
. r( l2 C7 j3 n•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
5 C; H0 }8 K1 `$ X7 L, rvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
5 k! F: G9 ~$ M  j+ E* G7 ]- w: ]•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
3 e6 M2 J5 N, XVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
+ r0 n- {8 g2 i: \1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
4 I2 p" ^0 B. C( \) B! K! ?( U6 y4 u/ CTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
