Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
! F3 ~9 d: W& t" y• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.0 _0 F* J/ L% e, w0 }+ v& Q
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.3 \5 H- K! Q$ P2 h# b; Y; o4 F
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.+ |: W& L& W% q
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability $ {; N% Q& |& {: F" U
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

8 O, }8 {# T# A8 N• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
: E0 }" P" m* o! o% B( C3 ?• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
( U: v0 N2 _9 E; T9 h4 ]: x3 H5 K• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.

showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 0 D0 z/ P# K/ X# T N$ `4 S# m0 V
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
* u' D/ `- k; A/ Y, ^* C/ o, Y7 avideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training)./ I. i- c& ~ A, T
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.9 u# Y/ A5 X6 D" R( v9 b8 g
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
6 i/ p. U; f: T% SVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week

Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
