. k* D$ I/ c$ EEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
5 A! |9 n* e7 n* ?•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
7 T# [' A: y+ Z1 y( w5 R: y•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
9 ?' D) l0 J& rand traffic conditions.
* I0 j! ~$ w9 t5 P( m, `8 i•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
/ S0 J5 o" r- S, l# I6 s7 l. E1 E•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
•        Provide excellent customer service.

) S+ W- E. `; _8 C" tJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
) C7 n2 {/ c0 k8 p' B4 ]•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
- j" i! A) c9 q9 l/ lto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

; M$ I' P+ B! H2 B•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
6 x: x2 K  A. r# P7 B•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
# ]# x9 w# k# k! ?- V•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
3 x/ X  v$ l/ N! Y2 R; B- t•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
2 ^" a! _! f  C# z# f, zVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
3 L( l5 ^* v; H# A1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
! d4 d0 k& u7 v. o! S( w" bThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

) X/ k( r. p* @% H6 \SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
3 }+ l/ X4 R5 c7 O0 tPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
* L5 X) A$ n4 U5 g2 @/ YThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
