Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
6 R' @: Z& |; u•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
) u3 l/ o9 W) z* k' {6 S- K0 h•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

' X& d$ C3 N3 S/ i4 }8 Y•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

/ I, I, x4 t! l& ^8 O: k•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
9 `# X* }" i# p/ Q! t# O' n: f•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
: D: N7 c) }0 uto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
; z9 G$ X: U1 j# qof the day.
7 ]7 C+ O. _) j+ ~% p! m2 k1 m" ^•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
6 o. d) s7 Q- [' }' f+ s) [•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
7 B- i5 f; l3 t1 t•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
. H7 X  R; {6 l7 uVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
; A7 r" W/ g3 G& XTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
3 o1 B  k& H( a. |& ~" T# h8 EPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
