Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.$ O9 ^: ]' g; H) t! k, l1 ]2 V

FUNCTIONS:* U! m' }$ h7 u8 J
• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
6 R' @: Z& |; u• Collect proper fare, issue transfers./ `3 ^6 i/ ^6 y+ y7 a
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
) u3 l/ o9 W) z* k' {6 S- K0 h• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

' X& d$ C3 N3 S/ i4 }8 Y• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

/ I, I, x4 t! l& ^8 O: k• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.

: D: N7 c) }0 uto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.

showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. $ K% Y4 i4 A7 @4 o* o- j4 p
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill : [3 k. v3 y0 K* b
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).0 S2 n, ]* u) U' G
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.; ]& {1 N2 m; E& i, b0 v
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
( l1 j' ]& c( y) T: f6 C: tThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
