) n# M5 ~: ?. [9 B) t0 JJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
- A- y4 i' h5 O! y* Xthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
$ r2 ^' E) r0 ~/ B1 R6 f( \2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
/ Q2 S6 |; I: R6 mCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  7 Q8 ~3 k6 s6 Z7 o" Y: ^
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  $ v/ k+ U3 ~& R) r( W
year following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000) U& r' ~) W9 l4 W2 ~
% }, h, m8 J4 ^
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.8 P  b! f& R' s% ~8 i

) B' M5 |! v. l- C2 W/ h4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
- i/ ^. P2 h! F# h: i7 [* n$ padequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  . x4 e5 Q2 A2 t2 g
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.  n/ `5 f9 U5 E3 A

% d% Z6 P1 g- ?' V+ ]5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
* Y& V0 `  t: N& nreferenda.
& f/ G* \9 H. v2 _/ J& y& S) P- n1 w' [) l% v/ s
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
( k5 h# H- C$ N' n2 q3 Q/ C  Wparties.6 t' m" ?+ m/ `9 s' e9 t

+ q! f) R8 H, m: c- h5 m2 ?) u7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ - k$ M$ R4 s% R8 d) y
referendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  , f! r! x; K' e8 }  N
Bylaw 2000.1 Q* t3 `: {. Y: p1 y6 j

- T4 }3 u( d) e* ^) ^10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
' a  K- z$ c& |2 P& ]. \" J% Vminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
7 u: M0 C  v3 V: Pfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
- {0 S0 X' L' P2 v8 qof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
* y; S+ l) l& I6 v9 C/ I0 p
3 n9 }  v! n2 G11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
2 e6 g: ]% r9 F) s' @' c4 {the course of an election/referendum.

0 C/ n$ G9 ]) s" J( F# v12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
9 A/ c' w/ \0 P4 Iprocess is in place.3 P, W: ]4 J1 h( U0 U! `0 \  i' g

) L. R: G6 ~! ^$ D$ [6 o: X' h13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  / O- |9 C( z7 U5 n# I+ k  O8 L" y1 K
of activities and recommendations.! T8 @# A; a/ [9 m+ o

% ^0 w- n# r; q5 i% ~# @14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
, i( N3 A4 |" j: O( @4 U& m" h1 k% Hof campaigning.+ i: V* k0 B7 |2 W" E$ s8 X

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

QUALIFICATIONS:
; x- U7 J& M% ?( D. Q# q4 m' }, s9 x( n
& l/ [5 `2 s0 M! O$ ^1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
$ U* _6 k) Z4 X4 b/ j5 W% T$ efor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
& c  G& ?- C( P) |% m- I! X4 r  v# F% fUnion member.1 T; g. c# @; W4 u6 X
+ `* T# O: h1 b; n
2) Must have some experience in student elections.
1 v6 [5 G8 d7 T) _# T) B# A
& d5 j4 n0 m) x: b& y3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
8 X$ u2 y+ g% W4 R9 ~4 j; _any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
; l7 l$ Z1 Z2 q2 \* _9 z5 lwith the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours." o. x$ p- v8 X* b' Y, i" a1 N# o

5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
