9 s: T1 c$ K" `" J9 K8 lJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
- Y3 n; J2 u& r7 _/ Z* ~" Sthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
0 o, U3 z1 p2 X; T$ q* x! [! BCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
( A' }0 q1 ^- K3 R$ e! EStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

7 w6 V$ L0 V( T# e1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

$ L# x7 T4 {2 t/ t# G2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

/ z, ^2 x# b& T0 B; U3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

7 \* W. u( _7 w7 Q3 U1 i4 E4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
" Z6 M, ~6 \, O" @( Zadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
: t& C( P$ ^/ g4 K& S- h6 Gacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
referenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
parties.

0 i) l- b2 u- |  |) D- r$ m  t0 {7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
  _- V. d8 N/ {" X: y0 S+ n& e( I" VBylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
% T9 T0 i& I8 C+ kminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
/ O# X* u5 S" e, bfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
0 b5 X$ F, \; M. y4 n  Zof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

! z0 ]% p1 i5 b8 l# j  e8 Z+ W- P11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
the course of an election/referendum.
) U' Q, @8 _8 z/ y
12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
  Y& C( q: q3 uprocess is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
$ _) C7 M" ~7 B5 b- ~2 ]of activities and recommendations.

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

4 y) Y/ q- ?0 \, r- v9 CQUALIFICATIONS:
, X/ O8 C0 K3 }! S4 ~  Q; U
1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
  j+ n7 r) C! l6 cUnion member.
! p! {7 D6 R5 @* ]% _0 x
  w4 |: `2 X; e$ ?, l0 E0 L- A2) Must have some experience in student elections.

3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
8 B5 w3 K& O9 Q$ K# `! _any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
with the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

8 z' R5 u) J! Z; _5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
staff, students and the general public.
