( j  k5 n7 {7 g7 E) v7 h& H# pSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
  G$ M/ T, j% }, [•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
. V% E& r) s) _Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
$ {9 Z$ M7 D4 h+ e: o$ w( M& Y•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
9 z; r& d4 b" E1 v- w6 B•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
0 l8 D  c/ w! s5 {•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
. V) y$ e3 e$ s% d: j•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

* X7 b2 A0 z# E& x) A! M( T  Z# H•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
" R, N% K' y: }9 [+ p•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
- ?6 Q+ v9 b% F: v) _! D. U( d( T+ }•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
2 m6 E; _+ n  U•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
. n4 r! h+ X1 o4 O. D•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
- A7 k+ {8 {) P6 ]- i8 ^9 y4 EFunctions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
9 n' b. E0 K" e6 a- N1 U9 o•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
/ `- S9 f7 `1 P$ q! `- q0 h4 C•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
8 L# p2 f* X6 c  C0 F6 j* `2 {•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
) @! R: @7 h# o' O4 I' o3 J+ l0 y•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* ?. \& C! A: Y' O% {•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
; b( w% M" J' h0 E8 pHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
# |! q: N: f8 O1 gSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
