Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
a0 t( e# \3 PDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works b3 g# s* g9 h) c1 [
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets./ M- V# L+ ? }% V
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.2 R |2 V6 w! U4 B+ \
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. & S' Q' V7 R% z4 {
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
2 I# G- J0 Y1 t0 L' M" z• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps. y! j+ g+ G! W# [2 D1 }
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.8 O! S: P; T* [2 A6 f$ Y
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
( V+ j N! W% q3 z C9 n• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.+ {' d8 {! x+ B Z
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services; {# b" J5 M5 Q! B |9 m
• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application./ k& p2 D& c( t
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
) Z* p& A$ g! J, P5 K• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
Z$ H4 p7 E9 x/ _2 S* i* D• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
; g, [- s1 U' R# d3 f* E• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

Job Requirements:& ?+ F$ y; j( k+ G9 Q
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
3 l# t o% M5 K' ^5 v• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
' C/ M$ Q: q. q7 }• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment. X7 F" C; W: W5 y Z+ E5 U: b
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
# y. U" ?3 {7 a3 T! T+ X• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
r" p# a$ m$ t* ?, T3 T• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.2 u4 `8 k! t+ F- V3 f+ ?+ Z/ h
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.

SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
