Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
6 y& \: G) O9 ^) R  D- v% ~Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
# o, Q) @/ P4 x8 S3 n& z•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
, E% M: T9 S2 U6 g•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
7 u% u1 t' J. i& L4 J& D•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
/ H4 k' Z7 a5 ~/ b4 V5 W•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
1 U7 A' w4 {/ T•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
8 h6 h4 |7 s# p( {7 F6 M•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
- z+ ?2 v9 @; T7 Z; x; O! R•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
9 y6 ^( Z% Q, I3 o# `# P+ A- V* N. d•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
7 B# A5 G5 w: p; V•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:

•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
( [; p( ^/ v% V/ b•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
. m3 ^+ d* I+ D# M. F) J; s2 I•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
2 J- H; B$ C3 T& J•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
. t: H: [5 z. [, f& @0 w$ X" O+ N•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
7 d: h, A: S! M& lHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
