- c- Z& o7 f# G  r) LSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
! o- J; q* z2 i, d: L! e- d! Z0 A6 J•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
- n" o' A8 C5 }5 j/ r/ \•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
3 x$ y$ G% m# n/ {0 j' `& p•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
7 _4 i  `+ @/ e/ ?, k6 U+ n+ t•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
0 K5 f/ P9 u7 N) x  t; z•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
6 I" }6 r, J9 _, R- C4 B" ]Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
6 e1 Z7 I1 w" r% N9 B- d6 [% n•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
5 N7 b2 K# _3 U•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
2 b" C  Y' ^5 F•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
2 Z0 Y( j' K6 [8 {•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
: o5 g3 \3 Q$ C. N  W) Z•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
. ^) k' G" }8 V4 M' o' B) ]5 h1 xFunctions of all positions:
- D8 ^3 G- N- g& E! w•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
  e$ K9 _; o. ]' D6 C( V3 B! F•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
: z7 h/ d) x( z6 K' q; J' |; Y•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
7 B; R2 B0 ~, X2 ^& T! A3 ]•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
' S1 a1 W' o1 I) e0 X•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
