Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
3 N; ~8 @/ E% M0 V. TDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
' B0 n1 v& }: k/ b* X3 D% w1 `* B• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.3 a% l! R$ P; H m" G* O
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.8 ]' f5 Q* }) ]# x
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities., z9 @) a I8 V0 ?0 k+ m2 ], L
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works( j7 o4 {" n/ G3 B: h' |* @; G
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. * t2 O8 f. }) B/ n+ m
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.. G: H: q9 N7 r% o
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.1 N3 V8 l8 {1 @7 |# f$ t' u6 Q
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation7 L0 r- B, l% M' S0 w) p. x
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
% G! O# m* i- U4 {2 F• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
9 s- @8 J, y) j8 m- i• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application., u) d6 e5 t, c4 k
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.7 g" k" w6 q' w) O5 Y
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.. k) j& X2 e: M, X4 X. W( J G* y
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.3 n( b" Y" \, v' S3 l. i
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

1 K, S/ |9 n3 W/ k/ x• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.# ~' L8 _: E, V% _6 J8 b
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
+ W& V# Q; @+ G" m, B6 Y• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.) |- ^1 ^2 J: Y- g
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
c) v3 l X& E) k8 X7 m• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.3 F! K" W- C8 G+ a
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.# f4 F! N" q1 C( i0 X/ [
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.& [; i) r A$ `
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.5 g6 X9 y# G6 B+ Y, z y2 B5 F
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City./ ^+ I0 d5 F/ p5 L9 u2 J
