' }* _" i# B2 L  K+ D: Y2 v4 V. e6 DSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
% m+ U' G% L2 t* z, g( s# LDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
6 ^) ^5 r6 X- X/ a5 c1 u•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
7 c2 C; n6 S4 h; Y: ^+ |- Z•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

  Z2 ]! n4 X7 e•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
6 z; A2 _1 W5 C( T•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
" o' {- d" n: bRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
" C1 c$ T# q* _•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
7 H% ?, V1 \) T9 J•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
7 P& c! }' p& u) S2 o* R•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

7 g" I4 J% }5 _, L•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
# [. X9 ]! \% r) j2 J•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
4 Y. g9 _8 [7 v% M•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
" E6 a( r/ j( _# \9 E' F•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
8 S! x' ~9 _% ~- h; L# gHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
