Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:

( m9 w7 ~2 {! C% D• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.- `& V; V( V2 ^( T% ~# ~3 X0 A5 j
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
1 V3 b/ [) @/ b$ |1 ]• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

$ K# `) b1 r4 e: @" R+ z• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. 2 B4 A; _+ p& k5 \- w
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.& {: i1 f: l; }9 v. \- F
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.0 n; F# @3 s, y( P4 v9 g
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.. L! y, |# h' \8 H5 M
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation! y8 j' a4 j: X
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.5 Y# t8 E' ~; h9 Q% d* U0 k
• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights). T% B: h8 A9 o4 O5 N
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.! u) L$ s: D4 f5 _
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.3 V5 j$ a w. j( C, f
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

Job Requirements:% W! G+ R* Y' a
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.2 E" V1 b$ g" a9 m" x- [
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.* B5 ~2 j, `: d9 W. a4 k m. L) J
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.) K8 V% Y4 Y: l8 K, K* O
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions. M c% k* `/ D5 ~
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
* f% `9 |2 w& C e9 V7 p• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.; x$ p1 [8 X7 ]
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.

SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
