Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
- w5 D, Y2 y' v" W& ?* [Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
4 _3 Z8 k6 u$ [) k* k! V  C•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.

J. l+ B•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
/ a/ j  [2 G+ l% z( G•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
2 c. r% f& f1 J' v# r. {•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
0 O- y6 p6 r" B# U9 u3 Y! Q$ k. o•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
9 r+ f9 X/ w) ^•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
, v/ |3 I1 L4 `  ^) J•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
; s7 h  I3 H1 p6 j. N/ I•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
$ w; I0 q7 W, u2 jRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
8 W2 F! y/ k% d•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
) }5 y0 p7 T: k' q( V•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
+ f/ @9 a0 |7 R- e9 @( U# m. z•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
& S0 z" |( Y7 v; R3 R•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
. W& Q2 x' s: i8 a9 P. R9 J•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
2 Q  _/ W4 i8 E, u- E6 u•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
0 c( n; x+ H/ x4 w7 A•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
/ P& A0 L, f4 J•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
% D5 S& r  |& [3 p•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
6 S/ ]1 N" }+ A# q7 r6 X: L•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
0 [; y! B! m4 p- HHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
, L6 Y( l* E# A+ B: TSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
