( j k5 n7 {7 g7 E) v7 h& H# pSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:: t: j& I3 i7 Q2 q8 `% N5 l! k
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works, z# y2 R3 l+ A! E
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.# T" p7 u, t5 F( |1 @6 R# r
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
G$ M/ T, j% }, [• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
$ {9 Z$ M7 D4 h+ e: o$ w( M& Y• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.& U) [( K( t/ c3 G
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.. D" F* M0 v& V( `/ i
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest. D# R R3 L; I- |5 s
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.6 d# i* x6 A3 K
• Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.! m6 t! M- {% c @/ O
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation5 `3 I( i5 i3 o, ~; C9 c* p# I
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
9 z; r& d4 b" E1 v- w6 B• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).5 _5 a6 {% \ p+ J! j
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

- ?6 Q+ v9 b% F: v) _! D. U( d( T+ }• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.- `; C7 g" L1 [3 `* h
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.

• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.

) @! R: @7 h# o' O4 I' o3 J+ l0 y• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

; b( w% M" J' h0 E8 pHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
# |! q: N: f8 O1 gSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.. [& a( _3 s. B
