Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:

# o, Q) @/ P4 x8 S3 n& z• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.) N) C; F: I0 C H9 d
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.2 W7 M9 Q$ s7 P# \8 @+ G( D
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities." z$ w8 h7 c8 d% X
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works; x, F! z8 f7 u8 i9 W7 M
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
, E% M: T9 S2 U6 g• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
7 u% u1 t' J. i& L4 J& D• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation7 N' s+ X) g4 i
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
1 U7 A' w4 {/ T• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.

• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.: P7 s- W9 Y; A
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.! Q5 x/ x1 O- {. q

Job Requirements:
( [; p( ^/ v% V/ b• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
. m3 ^+ d* I+ D# M. F) J; s2 I• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.- Z6 b8 l$ M X% Q( y. @+ f
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
2 J- H; B$ C3 T& J• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions. B4 A$ r0 @6 v# T0 \9 I
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.+ @- @' D& o2 p2 q/ ]; I, i
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

7 d: h, A: S! M& lHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.& C1 o( w/ U% i# s3 I
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
