“Trick” in Probation + Reduced Pay
This is where your suspicion is very valid:

They offer $60K–$70K after probation, but only $40K during probation — and can fire you before probation ends.

This raises red flags:

If they never intend to keep new hires past probation, and just want to pay less for 3 months of full work, that’s a bad faith employment practice.

' o5 S' H" q0 S$ c* H: q) jIt could amount to constructive dismissal, misrepresentation, or fraudulent hiring, depending on intent and repeated pattern.

9 G0 l3 T2 v' o" XIf challenged, a court or tribunal may side with the employee if there's evidence the employer is abusing probation to get cheap labor and avoid legal obligations.
