EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

/ f5 Z: x5 k0 \) n* u. KThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.5 m! \" v" q+ c9 j& R

Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.3 p! K$ e8 j7 ^) v4 p: k3 e

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
