EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.8 r( _. b0 h) J* ?3 }. I
3 f: ~& ~* K* @! FThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.- q. n3 R5 V% U R

Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

7 {5 _3 P6 Y" b% ]' n! ^"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
