; O7 p! h" Q, _2 F0 DImmigrant women and their families can now access a “household toolkit” crafted by a local service group for new immigrant families, through real estate agents.

7 Q. |7 Y& Z8 h1 M' t7 [8 t. yIn the tool kit are 75 common hand tools – like a hammer and screwdriver – as well a book on how to buy a home, a home maintenance schedule and other items.

; f K+ y0 M, w# m% A“The tools are a symbol of hope for people trying to build new lives in Edmonton,” said Madeline Sarafinchan, president of the Edmonton Real Estate Board. & U" Z6 C% L/ P% M; r

The program was announced by a group called Changing Together… A Centre for Immigrant Women.

Josephine Pallard, the group’s executive director, said Alberta’s economic boom has caused a housing shortage that makes it more difficult for immigrants to find a place to live and integrate into Canadian society.
