(1)
4 V7 m" M) Z3 A4 z! A& A" _) b2 ZExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
+ J. E$ {4 L- I* D A6 ^0 ]2 ]5 {not do any of the following:3 s5 S/ O! I$ u7 T$ B9 T8 o
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
8 _9 M, M) ?1 V6 j" ~7 E- Evehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
% @5 X' Y0 }1 t# T( G. X(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
0 y) I4 Q1 H; `0 Gvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;* B; l, Y0 Z9 p, }
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,, A% `/ \' X* m9 [, k
permit another person- L( b5 Q1 ]$ m. ]$ E) W" \ g
(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
& r6 ]1 @# x- j3 P: s1 Z6 F% B6 i(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
# [: X, H# _ @0 nunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;5 [: p1 g4 e/ p+ y. O6 m2 L% l
(d) give or lend a financial
5 f, j4 h3 L! P4 C: [responsibility card or a copy of it
. ?- i# k) w& h" y' ~* \0 g, Uto a person not entitled to have that financial E* [( t' a4 y- p3 s4 u# ^4 J/ n; ~
responsibility card or copy.

- l" a* U& g- G* CIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
5 @6 _5 ^, }! C" F6 A! iwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of$ i3 n/ v0 i) |
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
% \" m- ` x0 X8 R+ l4 Q(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
7 w8 x, v- Z1 ynot an insured motor vehicle.3 j# w3 h: j! ^

3 `7 I( k5 [ H1 \If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
% Y1 c1 Y d" _9 \$ w1 }Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
/ `8 t7 B" O' I1 I( Psection.
( m2 ?& P. k; ]' Y( t2 D(3); B, N9 a( x* P0 }( Z0 g
Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
4 c: s/ n# K, _1 Y/ o9 qfinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the
" ?+ ]5 I: p+ C2 o" ^ G( I5 \Insurance Act9 p* W& l7 V. N5 I5 I3 i
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy9 ^+ n! g6 k- X
outside Alberta.
0 l+ |- y: O. z9 k/ x8 X5 A( J0 r(4)
6 t+ q2 e: M. j; }, X/ PA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection( `7 T. R" U& U. e x& X
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,; s4 L" g! C; E2 ?/ K8 E$ p6 k
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500" J" j% C/ G$ R5 w/ f" L( B! R
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
& z, c0 n8 d# y5 {imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not! N* j2 E2 W: g
more than 6 months
& \% O5 D0 E+ W) y) y& z) I& a. p* m7 X' p6 g
Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
