Except as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
# Z; F! K$ C) f* Z4 Enot do any of the following:& n' i' H4 Z8 R
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor7 ~1 c5 s# e" i+ `
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
; A3 ~4 h% X, _1 B* Q, G K(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor- _$ W' J) m# q
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
; D: D( S; A! a; t' c(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
+ `6 D! q( c7 ~" bpermit another person
0 M/ H+ d7 w4 I0 a(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or# U( S; ] v* L0 j6 ]; Z
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,, v1 {0 a- [/ p. ?5 Y9 e8 U0 |8 M
unless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;/ K8 G0 O! T6 R J0 d1 c) |" W
(d) give or lend a financial
$ Z p; w4 q8 m6 T6 S7 xresponsibility card or a copy of it
+ `% W' v8 v1 f$ i$ B2 G0 Ato a person not entitled to have that financial
' v5 k0 c6 d) S5 u/ {responsibility card or copy.

If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway0 r- O% ]0 {* c" W* e) }' Z9 F
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of% i/ W: h5 ^& r& K2 |7 G( P8 A% e
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
- f3 {: F! C" ?, @ ~(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is
4 v' O. c+ M+ S% N' ]not an insured motor vehicle.9 X4 h+ l) i+ |. ]- Y

! d3 m8 w8 @& `0 k+ AAct, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this) z) D W+ e. n" K' C. s) P' G
section.

{/ i; \; y; L3 X6 {6 ISubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
% T- O) w- R! Q2 T+ ufinancial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the

: z2 H4 ?; _4 P- Oby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy+ V0 ^) Q5 c U) C
outside Alberta.

& v" a! d, ^5 s1 d# ^, ^9 aA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection7 H& f# K) [7 ?) Z5 U/ b" S+ F
(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,
2 k, b% `8 {7 e. Z& k(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $2500
2 e$ R4 _6 k, iand not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to; o) Q6 O' \/ l. L5 G1 `) D) |) d! G
imprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not) H# J4 g/ }4 s. N2 H& L
more than 6 months
! s1 B* v$ W Z) x: wMinimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
