7 j- W# d3 j- s% J1 k5 b( C6 q
! ?# X# \9 S  m! e) \# B, c1 _& _
        1. I couldn't care less. 9 k6 Z/ [* X8 M
# j4 c5 q$ w/ K0 }2 q7 @
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
1 u2 P: g1 L4 h. ^# @7 Z$ k6 e2 `9 M6 O0 @. d( s! n
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) + L" V. ?6 c- v; w% x& D

) t0 h* b) F/ v% n% A( z  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) * D- l3 [0 M5 i  S. |  B* V7 V

2 M$ c  ], E( Z; ^( f  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
  z0 D1 J! U0 Z" F. T. G  [
& X5 p) ^7 H4 K6 D% M, B  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!)
* n4 G9 n# ~3 C. E" ]4 ~: ]% S" V. N: W+ T  w
V* g9 U  D: D5 R
. ?4 m. w' E4 R& C. Z
  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) : |$ {! v; G& i

0 b4 ?  w7 K2 z; g9 b
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
* ^- w) V( r! x1 G0 C- u6 V5 v2 k! q: _0 M# J
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) ) p9 t: ~4 m/ z/ ]
; _8 w3 g2 w4 Q* ~
  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴) $ {+ f1 g8 d2 D5 [6 a: E6 q1 E: g

5 I$ @" ]8 _: a6 D/ c2 r" L! [  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. + u0 b  W5 A3 A) A3 l0 h

8 g  [" C' s2 \4 K) m5 k: _8 ]' r( z- T3 e
  I couldn't be more wrong. % X# G0 f, _7 ?- u* y9 G
6 z4 ?' ?! h2 T$ H6 b) `$ K8 _
$ r. J% y& p$ i1 Z) n% t8 h$ H3 I7 B; r5 O
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) 7 e- f" G: a2 m. e

$ v, ]6 o, ~! @& |! o, w( G  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) . e- R* K) T9 S% k/ r

, B. N+ H& P+ y+ M. }; B  2. No bones about it.
6 d+ t" A: ?/ w3 Y) @1 a: c# E$ H# c! d$ Z2 ~, G; N
  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
& @& [8 C1 p4 u/ k7 b4 R. ]) y0 Y' S! @& d* K( a8 H, |
  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
8 T, m! O" _4 y$ s# C
6 Q3 k& W. |, ^& F) R/ O  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
2 ^9 X$ J  X. ~; S. s7 }% R7 |3 W1 A# T0 B' B0 B+ k
  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) " {# f1 O7 c, ]

3 `2 l& T3 B0 p* W  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) 3 Y+ c$ z2 \3 U
5 l# B+ T, E7 ~; m$ i, X- U
  3. take it on me! . W6 ~3 U4 T" f' q
* K4 T: w5 y5 ~4 o. B
  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: & t# }/ L# c: r# s' I* ^
4 w7 Y( }7 M+ S3 g0 ]. a' q! R
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy)
/ ]& [4 L# G" B8 Q9 C1 X+ s2 o0 I4 i$ o5 p& |
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." (餐馆老板对我说:“尝尝我的甜点吧!”) 3 Y: L* r; y- g. J  ~# I

7 G" d% Y$ P: @0 H/ i( {$ o  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) (也许铅笔上刻有名字,做为宣传之用而免费。) , B* X) C! P% h( J! u: d) s

, \1 e) H5 Z9 F0 V6 w  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。 / b  ^' o# R# ^- M

) f7 C4 a. k. S0 d2 o3 G  _  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
$ \, p0 K6 G% w, _1 o* c3 D- k3 _1 q" r
  4. I am from Missouri.
3 B" f& ?" }( Y- p- s
/ g. V5 {! i* ^% r2 r$ I/ [  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
! v/ P2 d- |5 G# y

  T4 n1 f7 F0 A6 [( t- O7 ]  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri. & a( |" N' y1 P  z. _' h; u6 g

9 o" _" p' m1 p+ X1 b  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) (别愚弄我,我是来自密苏里州。) / Y7 S2 o! o3 `1 O, L2 Y0 }
! e+ H) _2 x: G( X  }
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.   p$ ?' y8 u) o- O
, {; N- q; s( w: R, \9 w; R
  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
