Finola lives with her parents and two brothers in Tofield, Alberta, a tiny town southeast of Edmonton. “My oldest brother’s name is really hard to spell,” she says, as if bestowing on him the highest honour: “It’s T-a-d-h-g.” She also proudly spells her middle name — M-e-i H-w-a, Chinese for beautiful flower (her mom is Malaysian-Chinese, her dad Irish). Earlier in the day, Jaclyn Chang of Calgary was eliminated for stumbling on "gigerium" after spelling "strabismus" and "sortileger." Leslie Newcombe of Toronto misspelled "dhole" after getting "ersatz" right.
