Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

2 A6 Z# n5 D% Y# J6 ^now inside a phenomenal, incredibly responsive Nikon machine. At 36.3$ R9 _4 C; T" g1 p
megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution, S- R/ Q) I4 A- Z M
within a body that boasts revolutionary technological advances. The 3D color
* T$ n! r4 H9 f1 S$ M$ M- qmatrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance9 s% d$ H2 M% K2 N3 o8 S
in low light are just a few features that are glaring improvements. The D800* y G$ s$ w- C$ J- B
allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject* F7 B) {) T8 c
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography
/ L. e4 J6 R* Nwas traditionally captured with medium-format equipment for maximum' l0 |7 v9 _8 W
image quality. When the 35mm format was adopted within the genre, it was4 ?0 m Q9 i8 }& T4 ^
widely accepted that image quality was compromised in lieu of speed and
8 G& c8 x. X+ g7 Tconvenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown' y: u: l# m3 M( h" G$ ~9 a
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,
) `$ c: ^* D# Q( t7 E+ e% ~thanks to the D800.* X3 M7 e. {9 ?: p. J
When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,6 D% ~: o" }3 e
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
' f5 ]' a% V+ L2 |) Nrange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces+ q' G* _2 e6 F
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a E+ S- I6 H% x2 e" p' _/ d
D-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as
@( M! b. v U) C$ @well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.
3 F0 i8 q4 j7 \6 k( K3 mAutofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor
0 |( z0 h( z3 l3 h( c y; Thas noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
) [4 Q# `- I1 j, ieasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while
0 D6 a' m/ ^3 K/ @also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New
# a3 b: p& x* Z8 s9 P; Zcameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features; q9 C) w# [% @+ ]# N9 a8 X7 x# U
in such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality
/ E+ i8 ^' H) H5 \prints and video.7 W0 }/ e$ x' B; [$ ~
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
) P6 T5 H* j) _: L# Bnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models8 C8 v# F' U+ I2 x2 t9 s8 R; u+ |
are important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
9 [" Y9 q3 Z; R% r, acountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first
; o' a; B# b; e( u5 K6 ^sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws
% Y& B) q+ b) p5 g% |1 l/ nlike never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of9 u/ P9 i4 r% H8 V# ?
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
+ U7 z }& I" x! k9 |+ c5 ]am enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as0 L4 V& x$ h( B2 s' c" `: q& B
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
7 G0 t' D( u8 k9 y' |: g9 ?1 i9 x2 Dphotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add$ Q2 e* I" t; G! q5 y$ L
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the9 N f$ O& H0 @- p1 E' A
D800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express
X9 b7 W: R# J q5 r) Q) U4 X9 v3 ]is that now I will think differently about the images I make.+ p7 I9 N# r# ~8 O% ~, q# G
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,( n" Q' S" N: n( p; w
compact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal
$ B: J' d$ S0 m! I Vartistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for% y3 o* ?+ ?7 Z/ h- c+ o# ~
the high-end 35mm D-SLR market. I have never worked with a 35mm digital3 i4 Q" d5 _9 G3 {" p: A& m% O
camera that produces images with such exceptional quality and detail till
0 N! W# [! T6 f/ k0 v; Ynow. Particularly, the live view mode enables extremely precise compositions/ m( J1 w% z* P; Y8 B
and easy focusing in dim lighting, which simplifies my workflow. Superior
$ d/ m% o; B+ W* dquality lenses such as the PC NIKKOR tilt & shift lineup are indispensable for: T& R4 j* _4 X4 Y. W) o
architectural photography. From my hands-on experience I found that they6 z; a0 X L! G# N( m
perfectly match with the newly invented system and produce breathtakingly; \7 f$ b7 C% R2 e9 [* Y7 P
clean, clear and sharp files. This camera gives me the photographic flexibility
z- ~' N0 g5 x eto work at unusual shooting locations and capture images in an exceptional( [0 O# U' T/ t
range of light. It definitely takes my photographic versatility and image quality
