Speed and power, without compromise. That’s how I’d sum up my impression

megapixels, the D800 produces unprecedented image quality and resolution

matrix metering III, wide dynamic range and the improved AF performance

allows me to concentrate on the light, the composition and my subject" _6 U& Q2 {& n% O
without having to think about much else. In years past, wedding photography

convenience. Now, my wedding portraiture will have a depth it’s never shown/ i( U2 `0 a% S% C
before, and my style of shooting will be enhanced rather than compromised,

, J }9 ^5 C7 ]When I’m shooting beauty and jewelry in the studio or fashion on location,6 L4 K1 T) `9 E7 f6 E/ s
36.3 megapixels changes the industry standard: in image quality, dynamic
% o3 f8 g: b4 {9 hrange, color rendering and the final print. The detail from the D800 produces% D9 [8 x6 ]( Z8 p8 G
the look of a medium-format camera, but gives me the feel and response of a
# A; O [+ _* {+ P( E8 dD-SLR. The improvements in rendering skin tone and specular highlights, as/ H( P! @" |1 x9 p$ t* Y5 Q
well as fabric and hair detail are superior to anything that has come before.) ]$ {" J( J. [
Autofocus quickly tracks models in motion. Nikon’s 91K-pixel RGB sensor6 V- F; c5 y: K$ i, v( l
has noticeable improvements in metering accuracy, while the larger LCD is
; r- U. v7 N+ Qeasier to read. The camera body feels solid and ergonomically simple, while) u0 g( R9 M0 ?! A
also feeling lighter and smaller than previous high-resolution Nikons. New0 D( v. ^: |$ L4 I/ U1 d, B: R
cameras always inspire me to test and explore, and all the useful features
+ n4 @- M6 p5 ], g( Yin such a compact package will open huge creative possibilities for my highquality9 K+ C3 j1 e$ R8 s/ e, ^" D# M
prints and video.. L1 ^% r/ x# ]! V ] j% x
To me, cameras are more like paintbrushes than technology. The goal is
; _( h* E* }3 g2 P0 xnot megapixels or technique but the image, and while camera models
* c& E- b# c8 Q' k0 o. l. O7 Nare important, they are not the be-all or end-all. But after a lifetime using
' e g; z4 v* S. ocountless cameras, I have found a new best friend. It was not love at first$ r; G* `/ H g; C
sight. The sharpness and detail were initially intimidating, exposing my flaws- b. G2 b8 t. f- z4 X1 j
like never before. Subtle camera movements showed and differences of& O) e8 [9 G1 e7 Z
acuity between aperture choices on various lenses were apparent. But now I
, S; _% H1 E4 Uam enthralled with this technology. Why? Because the images almost feel as0 [4 }) J8 W1 b3 D, j- Z" F1 J4 O
though they were made with a 4x5 view camera! Special features like timelapse
$ k5 h2 t8 ^3 b: `! T5 ephotography and the improved HD video quality and flexibility also add- u! y6 `, n6 x
tremendously to the camera’s personality. After spending a month with the
& D$ T8 r+ L; K( D$ l8 HD800, I’ll never be the same again. Perhaps the best compliment I can express, r9 q- J8 I- U) `
is that now I will think differently about the images I make.0 a4 l5 G7 D' k9 F6 E# A, @; r
As a modern architectural photographer I am always looking for a lightweight,
* n: }; M1 f" Hcompact and reliable camera system fulfilling the requirements of my personal! a6 |# t% X# Q! {/ ^
artistic and client expectations. The Nikon D800 will set new standards for& J \3 J b: J2 c
