it all depand on what you want. a diamond ring can be broken down into the following 4 categories:
- m. }4 T: R& {* v' ?6 H7 c1 V/ k* v
size * \4 ^, f8 f; [3 I+ {' \5 H
colour2 ]2 B' C) U% C5 d# X2 S% D
clarity3 T2 B! { Y# \3 [: {6 i. C! P
cut) V* P! q& P+ o% }. Q x
, f. g }$ T- \* N' lif you want a very high clarity and colour, then $10K CAD may only get you a 0.5 ct diamond if you don't care as much about colour and clarity, then you can easily get a 1.0 ct or bigger ring. typically, girls care more about the clarity and size.

2 S: H' a* O, r3 q1 v& ~4 Q" A+ b5 tthe cutting of the diamond is also very important. a well cut 0.5 ct diamond may look as big or maybe even bigger on surface than a 1.0 ct diamond if it wasn't cut properly. 9 _( o+ n! U1 x3 K3 ?+ F5 ]

the solitary princess diamond is the most popular style for an engagement ring. solitaty means a single large diamond (not a whole bunch of small diamonds or dusts but with the total weight added to a 1.0 ct) and princess means it's cut into a round shape on top (not square or oval shape)& g) q7 G4 F2 R/ R

the band (ring itself) can be found in white gold 14K or 18K. typically, the better the diamond, the better band it comes with. ie <$5000 ring usually comes with a 14K band but >$5000 ring will come with a 18K band.
