T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
5 F/ e: Y4 @; t- ]2 ?7 jAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering & }  ^% P3 A4 R1 J2 F+ u
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
: \5 h. y- p4 dinterpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
  `& I& C& D  ~" Z9 Pand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

What will take place in the sessions?% e3 R  w. b& I% w! `$ G% M$ l
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.

These activities will enable youth to:( ]9 g4 K4 _% R# r* F) Z
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
4 M% U. J& j2 W: L: _# t* y: n4 s Learn how to access community services and programs
- Y0 g6 Y2 B- r6 K5 Y0 S" a) o Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills

Program Schedule:
, m  q+ k4 Z* w# e- f6 F' `Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.( b9 E% @' W& H5 W9 k8 m7 ~1 H6 P
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily& ?5 S. e% x! }; [( E
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
! m+ o8 \: Q. J; I, S/ `& @4 x
( \5 t. e$ @3 {4 H& `# aWho can participate?/ z$ N- [* A4 F( W3 j( a6 J
Asian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.1 b0 L% ~, X( `3 b

. T8 [+ I. |4 O8 b; \1 kWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
1 o) y% }; A1 _It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.6 J* ?( M2 ]8 g/ S6 f7 U3 F* R# ?

* J3 k# e. L1 T+ d0 kVolunteer’s Duties:
5 N( T  t% l) ^6 j; y6 o8 H$ I5 _( G% F+ l; u  }! h0 f
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies . l7 \( }' u  p, M% N$ h! D
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development ! K, |7 r  _9 G  t$ n" E
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities8 [$ j) F3 n- E- \
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions9 D- N# h4 H) V4 r! F
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic3 \7 e. I& H& e' T: e
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
& a5 }# t! P% Y& N: b$ D6 T Assist in program planning7 W3 E  t8 T6 [( v
 Be a role model/ Y5 v4 E  H  U( C

9 r; P% t7 B% T  eVolunteer Commitment:4 ~: U( g  l. K  ]  {3 h: E

6 S9 @; [8 q$ |4 N1 l On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
2 B# H5 X  y" `& X One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer
7 ^( f; g$ E8 h: L2 u) l2 }, b) ]( S9 q: K' y: H6 G
Attitude/Skills Requirements:

 Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator( X: _; `5 i! x
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program# g7 M' Y* H7 k0 c
 A team player
2 w5 N. l& s9 I1 e6 o( W) o3 V Able to work independently with minimum supervision
  a1 R# M6 s: t9 k6 D Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
2 v9 J" K- F# z, z. e Willing to work with youth including youth at risk' G6 r8 E$ n4 [# @2 |4 }" x1 ?. E
