青少年义工机会

T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
% M' E5 B$ g* }+ @' LAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering 2 T6 f8 j% N" ^# v' K
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on
- \" w" p; L! A' y0 ]interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, - T" z7 z8 `5 N9 Q7 o  G. q: E/ `
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

6 z4 S) i- }6 r' j( }! WWhat will take place in the sessions?8 A$ v0 T4 K8 O, u/ m4 x6 x2 X
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.
+ N2 o7 @' ?$ k" Q+ A9 {4 s
( L9 H# i+ I5 i4 i( c7 CThese activities will enable youth to:2 e9 F2 I4 E4 v. F# i
 Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
# ?2 x/ K$ R' }* @& Y Learn how to access community services and programs+ Q* b3 z& f2 z0 o0 e
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills7 ^  B- K  W" A0 Z. z) s. b8 [& E
 Identify personal leadership strengths …3 r2 Z4 X: w0 C
; f2 ]6 U  ?% R  S' z3 ?7 z

Program Schedule:: M* ~4 Z, U1 b5 A6 w
Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.; R+ k) r) O9 V* z; ^6 l) y: g4 n
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily% @3 N: \9 o# D6 X  M
                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily

Who can participate?
/ v  q0 X0 Z. ~1 D% IAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
' v/ z( ~0 v( r6 x2 j0 L" g
# {: b4 c/ x3 ~* U+ HWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?" f% B4 u# G5 `$ t, D3 W4 a8 I# o1 `
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.( d# X1 i, d3 T1 z; z2 }

# ^$ \" W2 q  U+ o7 _  E& @. GVolunteer’s Duties:4 S( T0 c8 E0 \4 T8 @) P. \! f/ Q

" w7 h0 I  n2 \7 l2 U Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies 6 E# Y1 _3 v+ J6 N
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
( R- m& L2 H+ O3 `" R8 R Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
( x- O1 E1 n+ W( o: ?. [/ E% y Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
. {% X9 o% ?$ F  h1 i Research activities related to the sessions’ topic4 j' n: W% ?. _: ?2 t
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips2 a2 V! c$ Z% w" }+ ?3 m
 Assist in program planning
  s" o" Y% ^  e# Q% w% w Be a role model3 b% B4 \7 B* H5 P
0 h( T9 h% v" C  {. k% }6 D
Volunteer Commitment:4 F9 X4 w! p/ Y9 e- U- b- {; g
* D2 \& ]2 [- c0 g; F& O+ o8 x
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)
/ A$ s4 R  _; }( S+ P! k1 O$ o" o One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer

, z8 ~% P0 k" `! m- h! zAttitude/Skills Requirements:$ e7 }% ^4 o0 F6 u3 v; I

8 S1 }* e1 x# i  o4 F4 H* z! s1 E Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
7 [- b3 V; M. |- s2 s" u6 ?( m Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program+ z7 ?+ ~2 _% y
 A team player( m" l3 v, V' j# d3 `
 Able to work independently with minimum supervision/ p) P* J% Z+ L; ~# x8 ?
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families  m* `7 a2 \6 U' K5 S
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
+ ^: }( V1 m: V" E5 r7 v( p. l1 z7 s) T/ f* K) p9 T2 Q! d' H  v$ k
