青少年义工机会

T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
/ ^: }5 d) {7 j0 U8 D& XAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering , y) ~) S& W5 c% [3 |( z' {
opportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on # l7 {. Y# M; ?0 _6 H' q  K
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development, 5 N' U$ G/ c/ p6 \* c0 P
and  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

What will take place in the sessions?
( L) |# R  `8 a  }Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation., p0 y" k5 J! |! R- ~3 K5 A

+ y# R5 m% m+ _8 v0 XThese activities will enable youth to:
4 {+ R; G5 i$ G. x Explore personal interests in arts and recreation1 _8 T( a" _- L/ g
 Learn how to access community services and programs
. o& c& C, w7 ^* { Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
) q- R" X6 m, c Identify personal leadership strengths …9 m' m4 m, |; n# F- S% R2 S7 H8 z
/ p; {, H( q. q$ b
' i! {+ o2 R3 o8 T$ r# t
Program Schedule:
1 u1 E- ~& |  }2 QRegular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
- x; C7 W- i- w" V: wSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
) b2 k' h! A+ a3 b( Q                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
  @! f% R) O* x" @, K5 N$ r0 D% m( ?7 {# m
Who can participate?
, X, I6 ?: E3 Q! |0 L2 NAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.
; V6 P# q! F. h6 |9 U. w( B' e
7 l1 A% A3 ~2 R$ u3 J- i  gWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?9 _3 ^4 ?' C, D; M
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.+ e2 @  F- j9 g, C2 a% M$ f$ x4 I

! a9 V& M9 d) ^2 ]* X# F
; M4 G+ L, r2 K( ]  t* O# n  fVolunteer’s Duties:0 [  H1 x) }0 V: \1 T6 \
9 s3 a1 R8 k$ H- h7 Q
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
% l( R, T6 n# z2 \ Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
1 c$ M: {2 [9 Q' e4 ? Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities4 c( h" f) l7 A7 k" d. C* i
 Facilitate or assist in small group discussions# N4 k3 ]# i; \# y1 ^# p/ H+ R6 M
 Research activities related to the sessions’ topic; \/ t- x+ ^' S3 l. b( C' y
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
, I8 q3 i% k8 g+ B  v) r$ |( B Assist in program planning
; z5 {4 Q$ @% w6 i/ u( b2 o/ U Be a role model! _0 Y4 v; [  c, m

) ^% V$ r: u& j2 h: aVolunteer Commitment:: |6 I& v# z$ w' p

  Z( m2 q. f. C) M6 _/ n0 G9 w, g On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)( O9 j# \0 [6 W1 }
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer3 {! [# E, B8 @8 W5 D
% f; T2 Y! O% N+ l- M. Y0 F
Attitude/Skills Requirements:) _& `3 v0 R8 o* F% e* D

# H/ O# X' O+ v8 o, h- D Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator- v; t9 i$ {: X- S9 H
 Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
3 z& X& L" b3 |) \& d( j A team player
# ?+ L8 L: L7 ]' l Able to work independently with minimum supervision
# x9 M+ Z0 M  V$ B5 j Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families  ~& E0 ~5 R8 Z' |, ?2 ^1 |+ p
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
