T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip 0 ]" J) A) `6 }  S
Asian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
7 C+ j. r4 F6 H5 M; L+ ^  Popportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on " r3 x/ M* x; ~# D+ o
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
  V+ g: J1 p$ iand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.

What will take place in the sessions?! w9 P' w+ W( k1 A( D9 C
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.
, Y+ s% w( i1 v/ K) t, W" p2 h" _; W# j- y, E% Y1 ?& R- i3 V. l, f1 b* C
These activities will enable youth to:
: w; h! p, M* i: K Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
- Q8 {, e* `+ n6 Z  N% v Learn how to access community services and programs" ]6 ]! X% N0 G! n
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
0 C% L9 b' D/ e* e Identify personal leadership strengths …

5 i& {/ N4 [8 t4 e$ p) |" hProgram Schedule:
! c8 l% }/ A9 |# |Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.
8 v: Q. h0 c; V, uSummer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
" e4 p9 t$ }' y! @                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily+ H$ ?( E. r6 h* a( ?& D$ m
% S" G  U% W- J/ b9 W8 g% \
Who can participate?
- B7 \0 N' B0 O1 |$ ]/ N$ }5 CAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.

- z6 q1 [" C) E0 |! |& F3 ~What is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?
( S! e  ^0 j5 u7 T& z' l0 ]It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.% n' f9 J  Z: s' x9 G2 f$ U1 `
* a0 F0 B1 k, V4 h
, r$ L: ~% ]% }
Volunteer’s Duties:
9 r# G, w3 l0 R
- g3 N. P9 k. ~8 h Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies
+ A( K" H- b# {0 C0 f Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development
: l( a8 l# E3 M2 G Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
2 m1 a  F6 M4 j* B Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
4 I4 Z+ `# ?+ ~ Research activities related to the sessions’ topic$ z( T8 ?2 L& |" B( f/ T4 I" t' p
 Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips, f! e0 W4 {+ h3 o2 p
 Assist in program planning
  J$ f% |* {9 L; W$ j) v) U3 ]6 \ Be a role model" D7 d% P) k4 g! H0 f3 J
5 l" W. D  F# X! c, t( f8 I
Volunteer Commitment:% o) V9 ]2 J2 g) n3 Y) W
% `) R7 {- O& e
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years), X4 y' T. U) t
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer7 x# [: P* K4 V& t

/ j  ]5 i: s# \& wAttitude/Skills Requirements:! P+ _0 J1 K* m0 Z1 a

8 b3 u, M1 y$ T" B( x Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
  O7 w4 d, u$ C1 G Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
- [+ E+ v1 Z# S: w3 V0 }  j A team player
' x4 {+ d6 u1 K Able to work independently with minimum supervision
3 ]& H: W6 c6 k' _8 P4 B Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families4 Q" ^; m! l& k$ ]$ Q0 j; e4 l
 Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
* O' d4 p9 S" X0 p4 Z/ x8 e5 G, [+ q/ G. X
