T.A.N.G. Youth Program is an educational and activity-based program aiming to equip
' o/ J0 ~1 m$ y% F- E) UAsian youth to make healthy and safe choice. Recreational challenges, volunteering
6 D. @" }! i  c1 sopportunities, leadership training, as well as educational sessions on 7 ?* _% Y/ X( C/ ?
interpersonal skills, anger management, personal development,
' k4 k( t9 q, rand  Canadian-Asian culture are some of the ways in which this goal is achieved.; a3 |3 O4 ?0 Y6 P5 l4 g# y

" Z( L; i. l2 h" V& X4 U: ~What will take place in the sessions?# w* c4 k9 X" A, h% ?, ^& t- u
Each session presents concepts through interactive activities that encourage active discussion and participation.5 \4 L2 `5 c( m2 b& d  \3 M

These activities will enable youth to:
0 s8 a# f- q2 Y1 X Explore personal interests in arts and recreation
& A% Z; t- P9 m4 R Learn how to access community services and programs0 {8 @9 w- l2 ]$ s3 T# J' e
 Develop self-confidence and problem solving skills
# k. _9 Q" \* s1 z; C# V Identify personal leadership strengths …% Q" y+ h- V/ `; z( A! _

Program Schedule:
! j: N7 I- |3 n  V/ h7 i6 {Regular Spring and Fall Group Sessions: runs on alternate Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m.. c& r) ], v2 K6 \# f: R
Summer Group Sessions: 2 consecutive weeks in July from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
: C& H5 |$ q6 i6 P& E                              2 consecutive weeks in August from 9 to 5 p.m. daily
" p3 j; v: t: c2 v1 e: ]2 P5 q' ~: e: G2 F7 A% H1 x: u) o" @4 h
Who can participate?
  R5 b1 `6 @- p1 LAsian youth aged 11 to 15, who are new immigrants or locally born Asian living in Edmonton or surrounding area.) n5 |2 y. @. b/ g

  {3 L& h  b5 x) [# G$ UWhat is the cost of joining the T.A.N.G. program?! u5 y# W1 T- N' B% H- l3 h" q
It is FREE and space is limited to 15 to 20 participants per group.

Volunteer’s Duties:! p# S/ S" t( s
0 E" K3 S* s- S7 i5 l  R
 Distribute promotional flyers to schools, churches, communities and social services agencies 8 u( A1 q$ J. q' B' W2 I& R
 Facilitate and/or coordinate   activity-based function such as to host a gym day or sport tournaments or workshop on personal growth development ( n, A. g: e+ g# J$ V, @
 Facilitate or assist in ice-breakers and/or other activities
6 n7 C2 \4 I0 Q# r+ d. C- @5 f Facilitate or assist in small group discussions
) L0 b) s- g* V Research activities related to the sessions’ topic
2 n, O2 J7 o# D. O; w0 O Enforce safety rules during program sessions and fieldtrips
/ q+ {* Q7 m' \* [* r, L# o Assist in program planning
$ R& H# z" |% b7 _8 h Be a role model
5 K! V" L: V2 x$ Y+ ^3 e  d$ ?5 T5 V9 ~- h) H* o, q
Volunteer Commitment:
6 n6 C1 F) z9 y* p9 N9 U 1 j! y, R4 t* N' J0 c: c9 o
 On-going volunteers (we have volunteers dedicated themselves to the program for almost 4 years)1 ~1 ]  X9 K6 q& a8 r
 One time volunteers:  minimum commitment is one seasonal session, i.e. 8 – 10 sessions in Spring, Fall or Summer! r" I2 U( x2 U$ a0 M/ O

- D  r: n9 e2 K) ?: t! K8 T0 { Mature, patient, organized, willing to take and follow instruction from Program Coordinator
" P! Z3 I; B% m Open and willing to initiate and maintain a positive relationship with youth in the program
' K/ L: c0 m" i% n; R A team player
" A/ n3 F' W" i' T7 n) G Able to work independently with minimum supervision) z( m9 Z0 _4 G) f/ ?' H7 X
 Value the building on strengths of  children, youth and families
5 H7 c& H4 b5 u) S Willing to work with youth including youth at risk
