Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

# O: L9 e! w' O* L: vThey are also responsible for other important tasks, including:

; P& a) _- w6 [& R$ eDiagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
# W9 W$ \2 M& a  o, OOperating machinery in a safe and effective manner
% J+ Z7 i3 \% S# P, y( YProviding daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
4 n! i2 W5 j# D0 q8 S1 TAssembling and starting engines
Diagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
% T3 r! |) B* l. k$ n  M- fPreparing inspection, work and maintenance reports
Performing other functions as assigned

Good eye-hand coordination
Frequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds

Regular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations

Welding skills
Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays
May need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
! G4 h* x+ s- Q% {. qVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
