service providers.

an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving

Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
6 M. w/ |- }. m/ Zcarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be; m3 P, |+ [( i. h
guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and0 V, ^# d7 f5 w0 p' Q4 k4 Q5 p; y! r
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
) @! U! d6 n* a( c2 B4 @, Z6 k: Dmarket forces to prevail.
) z2 N+ R, B8 Z1 X; G
% M; z6 B. a4 a' K7 CThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has
: S0 r* F! @" E; Fchosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large: a7 C4 P9 g% h
number of Canadians. Details of the CRTC consultation are available at

5 }3 |# O4 \4 ]When the CRTC reaches a final decision following its consultations, the

0 `: n( V# e7 W- m. G7 \competition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that
( l/ ^ X" Z6 g4 J% H4 e: _any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
