The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition3 z$ G- | ^3 n/ @6 ]
Roles and Functions
5 d {8 E+ i& K' {! ?& L" B' tThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
: g9 y, E2 H' c2 I+ @organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
& G1 v, i9 ^, |' y- w+ z# |! uoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has( ]& x2 M2 Q! t- m* s' f
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
. q& p$ p( D, E4 m6 e! q' h& qoperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular4 g, m$ u9 s2 f
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
& \2 q {' R, L2 k8 e$ ]0 mconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an+ z" a4 v5 K1 k& A1 S
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
) S" h. }4 G3 {/ V5 Tstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
3 L# J! Q B5 G3 t3 E9 P1 p+ sall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:) Z8 {# J$ N- X6 g
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
5 n, R/ ]) Q% }: p1 X6 `0 zofficers of the Coalition- r6 K" R7 N$ ]+ C
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural3 p# z7 X. _" [: d4 }4 p
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations% I% T3 K9 K ~
and public institutions% m2 h4 H+ T( V+ g& o
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
& h! f' V8 T w" w7 l, s1 g7 W9 a, Ifunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
2 d& k+ n# F, E0 |5 c! C4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
$ A/ U7 F, c3 P- j8 borganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with% o5 Z% m- k! `4 d( [( {
these organizations
$ y& S/ X/ }, J5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community1 W# v2 V. L) A+ y
leaders( w; Z, f$ r& _$ L4 F. y
6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic. R, y5 s% B& f4 t- ~. D5 W
participation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society4 q/ H3 @* ?/ T- n; f
7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working
' k- l3 B% p3 I$ s+ ?2 S& V8 X- k) qwith groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically3 }6 H7 s7 _9 y( C9 c9 w/ b

5 k) m F3 l. a' ?Administrative responsibilities:
& \9 {7 l. W: t& l4 P( r/ _1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its# A( I6 y9 l9 R/ J* ]
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
! B$ t( o4 w( p D7 tdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
# B. p& ?& C$ U# omembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
. L# \6 s3 {3 ^' a2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
: K) n3 W# Y+ R9 ?# t% Z' A- ~Multicultural Coalition
7 K9 ?2 o( h+ BRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
8 V3 G0 s- e, _# nAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
1 P+ F. ]1 ?* \( ~! V* B+ ?implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
8 h) j6 Y8 G, B3 N. w% t2 ]" moperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
: [1 ^ w5 Q& X X9 d' vThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
) G9 a$ T+ i3 Y" o# W# B8 Naims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
- `; }; J+ `' n1 G1 Q' Fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership- @+ g/ H& M1 n+ { }, ^9 j7 `
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and5 b+ r. D8 C# m6 f+ Q8 d
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
- G1 V! I3 x7 \6 Tdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
1 o$ R* j6 s: Z3 T' i4 l3 Astatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
9 l) q" Y( C+ ^1 O3 jmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of' Q# Q1 o+ c$ l% `: m' }
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of6 [/ |) M% a/ r2 Z& H f6 u
policies already adopted

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

community level

Pay Range & Terms
+ h1 M! `. q+ B- Y* U( d# \0 KThis is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
