A scary moment for employees at the Maxxam Analytics Tuesday afternoon.

5 e* n0 X9 p4 XAround 2:25 p.m., Edmonton Fire Rescue received two 911 calls to 50th Street and 67th Avenue. One was reporting a fire, the other reporting that someone had been injured at the same location.

1 ?+ l; h) b5 c' b7 @+ t1 pFire rescue's Tim Wilson tells iNews880 there was a flash fire in a lab where the chemical Toluene is housed.

"The fire took place in a room at this facility that did have some sort of flammable products stored in there," says Wilson, "and somehow, this ignited and caused a fire."

Wilson says fire rescue responded with trucks from three houses because of the flammable chemicals housed in the building.

2 h! i  z  ^2 `" r$ C- h7 d3 o, q"We had eight units on scene, with about 30 firefighters," he says. "The fire was out in just under 45 minutes, and was under control in 15."

3 \" W% K0 J- _8 z"When crews arrived there was a male who sustained some injuries during this event who was transported to U of A Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries."

Toluene is commonly used in paint thinners, leather tanners, and disinfectants. (ks,blb)
