this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA ! q) H% e9 U4 Y" A
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and * K) i. a# @# i
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 9 p- z9 _( C& F6 j6 H) e, l
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the * l" ~; C7 b- M
community the agency serves.

Responsibilities
! ]8 Q- W! D+ g, g- w8 [
/ v- g( d& j5 i' Q- F* Z/ XReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
) D1 j6 N2 b$ o, V& q& c) Dexecution of the YWCA Strategy , l8 j( ?3 ?. X) F' t, @0 `' k
# l. C& |" x+ Z& O/ [/ p5 k
Specific responsibilities include:  8 G, R* [$ P0 L) c6 G
8 q& c. p8 F; w9 ^' h% v3 z! M. p
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
% f! p. h: T5 e; ethe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by & E$ m1 a  R7 _) o* l7 @$ y' I
the Board of Directors;  8 D/ Q, A# L* T/ g; Q1 r1 i
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
2 Q3 \: [! B, U  Zincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to % k$ \2 H. B% c& R
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
- w, D  I: l6 K  @•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
2 [4 ?' _& B+ C! D4 i6 Gobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by * v& U$ i0 W7 J, ?/ m$ @6 T% B
the board;  " ~* p% h5 g) v$ Z7 N5 M
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
0 k; O' w& y8 q6 `7 x•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
8 O2 F3 Q" Z! U' Ythe development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings;
# ^4 W% \& m, D•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the $ Q  S" N) [' ]# m% f5 t+ {
changing needs of the organization and community;
0 F, ?& }. B2 Q/ i6 @•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue
0 T8 y% x  Z8 l$ i# _5 D4 ~commitments;
+ [& J, i& I6 H4 I•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
1 _( w  Q& [. c: }•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective 8 m4 S' |5 l+ ?7 F- Y( N
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  
* O: X6 o4 ?' |6 A+ H2 m•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; % |' e3 U! `% a* I
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 9 j( g; @% `* o1 w
effectively and positively represent the association; ) C; Y. A8 P; `3 C$ t/ z6 L
) Y& f' J  U7 U9 L
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
) @! [3 e! C8 m1 K0 R7 gthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  
% Y" L0 X& s7 f; Z) V•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
8 j* h( C2 R# e( K9 Sperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
& ], Y" ?1 t/ L) |the forthcoming year;  9 t3 F6 N! }& w- U- ]3 T
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical $ c) o/ V6 ^' @0 }" J' M3 `9 t1 l: ^
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
0 K  p! P% g  r3 x& Y5 B% k2 uYWCA Canada; and 4 S/ }1 s$ d  |; L& t  G
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task 1 D3 j* v" S1 \4 r# H4 p6 n
Forces.  
8 p5 b- Y/ H$ Z3 t8 b: m  + L! T' o+ g3 \+ Z9 }- c+ A% k
Required Skills & Abilities 1 P+ s1 G6 j. U1 p9 W- D
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations; 0 U5 \% E( V) S4 m* i: B1 B
•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus
- |7 ^5 U8 T5 f* Q" }& Jaround decisions, plans and actions;
3 }; v# j& Q/ l7 s6 |•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
4 J0 Q8 E# A6 w% B1 k- q; w8 K•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
* |2 @& W& t" Z, L& d+ Q3 o8 aand achievable with realistic timeframes; # X3 T; h) d. k
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks ; ?: c/ C; \* j  |+ p6 B
simultaneously;
2 t9 y$ X1 t% s$ x3 M, m+ y4 s% V•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build # ?! M" i/ C( ^( @
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
! F; ^2 X" Z1 s( |2 I•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and 6 s5 a9 \2 g# A# p4 L$ R0 x
•  Superior negotiation skills.

Required Professional Designation / Certification
$ W3 j7 a4 K" f% k3 x- `3 \•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. : D( p; E. U) e& K
. ^! I: P: s- ]: t& M: V
Required Experience
1 C. i" l$ k9 b3 |•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
5 P# M8 d  u; K7 T  p" ?9 \. X; o8 B•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
% [, l/ |+ f5 q0 b0 Mabilities;
4 ?7 B2 U& A* x, J8 \' _•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, " h# c' |3 B3 O
Networking and Fundraising;
6 D! P; p% N! i1 m' T0 n  t- H•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
) J2 @/ _, z' c0 B1 R/ G2 jand financial statements; and
7 Q0 e4 [0 z6 m•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
/ t; k6 R7 J# R" m& p6 M+ Hcentered perspective. & x' _$ w7 s: R) z" l
