The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic 1 r  u- }' m2 f
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead * x7 `" a4 Q" g
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA : o- P" F) w0 N
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and   X1 f" o! r2 X: l7 w
surrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA 1 _: d% \8 }! P6 V" N9 p4 U9 s
Edmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

Responsibilities ; J: C4 V5 z$ i; S6 k, c5 ~

5 ?( R: \4 O8 @4 [( r! x  pReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and
7 u+ p- }8 V' f% ?- {execution of the YWCA Strategy ( a/ \  j" ?; s5 J/ H! b
5 T4 w. o+ A! Z1 M* `  V( i( O
Specific responsibilities include:  1 b+ x) v, R% ^2 ~! ~  u/ ~

6 E: S8 X2 N$ U) f•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of
: y7 f0 O7 J4 y: x& a& A' z+ R0 W6 Dthe YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
$ o  b& l& z* U) Vthe Board of Directors;  3 p' s( t- s4 c
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations * H  |+ T6 d4 {: I/ D0 ?* y# D
including financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to
: l) N0 Z, ~7 e: kenable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
+ T; @7 S; @# R  v" f. v•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and
  t+ P) I$ v; D% d9 j* Y4 j  G+ mobjectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by
1 F# t8 f1 L% I/ gthe board;  . j) G/ x1 s5 o$ G
•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
# L% Z5 M  ^/ w. C% r7 _6 X•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion
# I+ A% p$ u  |0 R, @the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; ; C* M% h- I$ c: p& p; m4 S
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the $ t: Q4 D" Z  q( {
changing needs of the organization and community; 0 {! E2 G+ I2 v9 K" u8 }4 R9 {
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue ; F7 z1 X$ f4 s
commitments; ; V* s8 D/ O# r$ A# R
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  & K  ]6 D$ k( p$ }1 O
•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective
7 B: ]! N3 |% u. \3 tselection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  - @. {- N' ~' }6 h: n
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed; 6 Q! Z$ {5 q0 X: n; c; o; }. @4 I
•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to 1 k* g0 s9 @+ R+ H" b' m; ^1 s
effectively and positively represent the association; 6 d2 H4 b9 K" Y; q: s
! R# F0 Y! ~( o/ |
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
3 |9 z9 D+ f* Pthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  . o+ X# U0 B! O) a4 Y" z& F
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal : k3 {* \1 ]4 C1 u/ b; x. L
performance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
' O6 P3 S9 z! H& wthe forthcoming year;  + H' x8 E6 k8 [( H, A6 M/ j
•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical
0 D5 S9 S" p  qpractices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of 2 Y8 r! s& [9 h
YWCA Canada; and
1 S! U8 T* a' F: ]/ U1 W•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task * }( f# h* B5 `5 L+ i

Required Skills & Abilities

•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks

•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build

Required Professional Designation / Certification 9 t6 f* s1 X! C; o
•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. , v, w9 ~/ l" l
6 M" s* O2 G2 s; e
Required Experience $ |9 A, a# j; {; K
•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations; # o: y. Y: e* H* Z3 k3 q
•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation
4 N0 ?/ u3 {7 Z0 h: W2 F8 vabilities; ( `& ]( R3 W5 s! L4 M
•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations, . ^; G7 `1 f: [* z  g: j, a
Networking and Fundraising; 1 B5 p' c' Z5 K5 u4 p
•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting
4 _& j, N' ?6 F9 a: y5 S) wand financial statements; and 3 z$ P+ z" p# o7 ^( c0 D5 e7 s+ y0 u2 i+ s
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women 0 T8 o* y& _4 @3 M' {; \
