Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
& W3 G' b! L# d9 ]9 l& I, \Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule" {* A9 A/ ?4 H/ c1 o( A, n( w" [
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
- u/ \! d: i) p: _' kenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
. W1 a& K& D1 B7 J& ~management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
5 n. d p* R ^" W# \vermin-composting and residential recycling.
$ x& H2 l4 _- u6 P" J* }& C* f! m
; f8 `- L, P2 L. _* H$ LThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
7 Y( K1 F. z, {5 \( z$ Dto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
1 m5 O1 e6 g1 V- B( `complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
% U, h' O! E0 p+ Creduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important' y5 W2 w( ?' ]+ x4 d
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
; c# l; c& P3 M5 C7 a7 Bimportance of composting and recycling.
0 l* X3 u( a* U1 s3 g% | C, w+ f- k; w/ b _ w+ F' O& N
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the* t# A# l v7 B& T
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
A7 k' s: p* _9 h! qpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
+ K4 f0 J8 A v! [maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
1 |( v" i% c: B- u6 Qvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school8 B6 V6 d4 I5 p& A) E
presentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
/ ^/ F% {# f9 | |' Dvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the6 f# n8 E, V N8 n& _ Y5 L
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
7 b4 g+ f# P& ]! k0 c7 q) Mknowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
+ q o% B* h) J9 Y4 x" ]* P5 K: Q# L8 BComposter-Recycler Volunteer!
