Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!: D! x9 L W: c* z

, [4 U! l& m. V) M# i; ODear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the/ K; z& {% m; V$ C
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
( |$ `/ A1 I3 I(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
1 x! K1 L( q6 q4 E: t+ Aenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste( {# U4 V2 @/ [6 Z' ~
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
; ]) ]: C5 P0 a! u+ ^" fvermin-composting and residential recycling.
0 O" k' F- ~3 Z" n7 V( o' G; T3 n3 P( `( T* G
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips3 r4 } J; K5 k: v6 r0 ]8 g$ w
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates# \' ]8 p! ^4 |# [% V
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:1 N5 T+ d1 z* p- e* J8 J1 O
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
9 \: q' g( r; I- Vresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
! w, t9 T9 F \- E3 Z: i) Kimportance of composting and recycling.+ E' f: _% G% c
; c) G! C+ b4 Z$ l9 j$ \Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the: {# T. }9 |6 L% _7 H/ Z5 I$ S
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
- ~( [! H! {( d6 Hpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and. s6 w! W4 x$ y3 ~% l
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at6 [8 O8 h( x0 i1 f3 l- x3 V$ R
various demonstration gardens and general public and school

4 A& X- Y1 h7 W" DThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
