Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

7 a( `+ w( w( \Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
- `3 B. e$ F% m4 I3 E' iMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
8 ?) o3 A1 [0 \/ r* r2 D& `(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about' \& a3 o6 @; D: T: u1 ^
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
! u3 g2 M4 ~& _5 wmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
% Q7 Z! v8 j# o) ]* lvermin-composting and residential recycling.% l+ O9 {5 ?" x r) i% K8 A! P
1 F* K7 \4 O( nThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
& A9 H8 k) F9 s! W, @0 Nto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
. L G6 g9 V0 O2 h' }complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:$ W, v% k2 l' |! ]
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
) W8 @5 ]4 Q, m# s/ @! _resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
: G9 d9 m+ s. U- l, yimportance of composting and recycling.

/ y& }% v; c' }1 J# @; \/ oExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the; j3 J' D; h' `; w. N5 M G
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;' x) Q4 N1 ?7 G( V) x8 K: h
public education display booths; assisting with programs and
# o# U& n! \$ ?! c9 k0 u2 Umaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at% j: z: V2 `% \# ^7 k0 s+ R; e; [ U
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
7 T" O; i6 n$ b$ V% r/ l0 y; Apresentations.

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
" ]2 k6 g) E3 X2 g& b; P! u* {volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
. }0 U4 U2 c6 I4 k2 M' \+ a6 |2 Pmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your7 j: m7 v0 c" t& H' T; e
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master
