Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!- s6 M0 ^4 w) ~. M5 m3 {. _

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the% z3 l: g/ `! L
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule4 Y* W6 Y$ _+ T& V5 n8 C* {
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about7 }# h$ u. U" K n$ T% x
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
5 R5 W# M# O. v2 k/ l7 ~management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
( d* ?9 _. m' p; I( avermin-composting and residential recycling.3 q1 `6 P6 S9 @' K
* j( V$ z$ Y; |% {; K s7 {
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
/ m1 l4 ]9 I% H: ito various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
6 x; k: a* w C1 E, o" c# j- ?6 |) zcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
! m- h2 `) i2 R3 lreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
4 @; a9 w( G, Rresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the
1 g( O" R0 A/ V# v w! V7 |importance of composting and recycling.* K, ^1 y; o. P; k4 J
" n2 ?7 u0 d& z" Y* R6 l
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
& O# o6 r7 y. x/ Q5 f, \% ^: u; q7 HReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
9 y) j u4 o \+ @8 u; Rpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and8 T& f, u& p3 D5 x3 v5 i; ~# v& _+ B
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
) P. a3 d: l x6 l4 rvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
4 B# y V+ h+ kpresentations.
* U3 H4 T4 K* C$ o" I9 ~ V: K4 k. O% s7 ?4 G/ h1 }
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and! j4 K% J8 C3 b: M. l. x
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
