to buy a used car

Before I move here from Toroto, my friend gave me a 88 Honda Accord. It ran pretty good. I  even drove it to New York. Now I am here in Edmonton and I need to buy a car. I don't want to buy a Japanese car although I really like Honda Accord. Could anyone here tell me how the quality of 1999 Malibu is? or give me some suggestion for a car of 1999 or 1998.
