3 |. }' g7 ]& D9 ? m DThere are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009.

0 t6 ~' X+ T5 WPayment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:! h* I$ {/ D7 X. s( H; H* n' H% U( @

1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.* z p5 _& C4 r; S( u8 M3 \) _5 h
2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so./ j$ I; r: l P1 E5 X# J
3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums." e8 ], s6 Y' w7 K1 O
4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.
