6 \5 z+ l3 J5 f' j: AThere are no changes in the way Albertans register for publicly-funded health care. However, as announced in the 2008 budget, health premiums have been eliminated as of January 1, 2009.

    * Read Common Questions about the elimination of premiums

Payment and collection of health care premiums owed prior to January 1, 2009 will continue under these guidelines:

1 W3 \) {' ?5 I- u+ Z   1. All Albertans are responsible to pay premiums unless they qualify for premium assistance, government-sponsored income support programs, or are senior citizens.
$ y8 T5 S) D+ ?9 u  j9 i& S# k   2. Employers and benefit administrators who register and pay premiums on behalf of their employees will continue to do so.
4 k; e' O0 h! Y' Z* J6 S7 P; L$ T   3. Alberta Health and Wellness will continue to pursue collections from those who fail to pay premiums.
& x+ L) s" a* W: y. t$ G   4. Contributors to Alberta Blue Cross or other supplementary insurance plans that provide prescription drug, dental, and other extended coverage, will still pay those premiums, as they have not been eliminated.
* _; k* n2 i" M   5. New Albertans must register for the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan within three months of their arrival.
