In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release." A# w" m& h. A. r# [+ ]

One male passenger fled from the vehicle before police arrived, and reports indicate a small white car was seen fleeing the scene after the shots were fired.: [! l, G' f5 G( r

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police believe the incident is not random and is likely gang-related.

Meanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.: ?- l& o9 V4 D5 W

At approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.7 h& h o. y0 s" e3 ^
* z; ]2 N( ?0 _( ?3 h/ B }Upon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

: Y: C) U; R7 ~/ LHe was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

A police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.2 w k0 Y2 f$ P' z! 1 i- h/ z) q' R) L. d7 `5 B9 ]6 _The three suspects were located by police immediately following the vehicle stop. A 32-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.
