Edmonton police are investigating two killings from early Sunday morning, the city's 20th and 21st homicides of the year.

In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.

The driver of the car was found dead at the scene.

9 b' D- F; \9 P! LOne male passenger fled from the vehicle before police arrived, and reports indicate a small white car was seen fleeing the scene after the shots were fired.

No suspects have been identified and no one is in custody.

4 z1 o5 h3 F! D7 }+ ?Meanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.

9 ]9 l8 e' z: ]/ @) {+ o: qAt approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.

/ j3 X8 g! L9 D+ k( s% wUpon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

A police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.
