! h. ^  M) ]' CThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

, J. j6 e, U& _3 CThe project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:
• Marketing and outreach to industry and workers
, e6 B* |! P4 ]; u% s9 B! X• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”
8 |( E# D" R) m, {1 k• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”
• Interpretation and translation services
• Supportive counselling services

6 V. O3 \7 u9 r- h2 xThe Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement
5 D6 E. D5 P  w& S( ?8 z6 Vguidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign
. l( w8 n: [( W1 OWorkers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and
supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.

The Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and
1 w& X7 B! x, m; I2 H4 Z6 Zorientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.
Workshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and
community based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is
required. The ability to work flexible hours is essential.

( |( h) R2 y3 n3 {2 P, O) qunderstanding of temporary foreign worker settlement issues, being innovative and
  {1 B0 }3 y" `1 \0 Himplementing solutions for TFW facing a variety of challenges. It also involves
0 L0 }" x1 F/ W4 J2 j+ Y* @  B6 I7 \maintaining all information and records required by the program guidelines.

6 |9 [+ b( ~+ U• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals
• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office
7 K+ O% @: Q# A• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required
• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment
• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services
• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency

• Promote English language services for TFW and employers

• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers
• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:
$ f7 r: M2 |* h# O; h+ a0 b2 T• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
& Y0 G( z2 {: H# [$ M7 f3 O• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
" C' `9 d- N- {+ d) k9 {: b& y• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making
• Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages
• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
