The Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.: ~4 E" i( ?& J5 u' a9 T! P

• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”0 S4 t' j) ]* B9 m: Z
• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”

0 X% R- l3 a' R- U( c3 M# cguidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign
( P c# d5 X( P, X7 @* WWorkers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and# w( r6 Q* _6 \, W; i4 [# f
supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person." d- c( i$ F0 F7 M

The Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and
9 J" N1 R4 y1 o3 `orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.
8 k- ~9 W3 x! D8 l# r8 R& KWorkshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and
7 k7 G+ [) E- H Q0 b# ]$ E2 mcommunity based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is0 {; L+ D1 y& Z; c# i+ I5 r
required. The ability to work flexible hours is essential.7 _ c7 V3 l( @: u0 [
+ n' b! B2 ?! uThis position involves working as part of a team to provide services, create an8 ~. d' \& P7 J. T
understanding of temporary foreign worker settlement issues, being innovative and4 [- {7 `- N- z. m" m
implementing solutions for TFW facing a variety of challenges. It also involves

$ @0 g" E# j1 x: w/ Y• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals0 Y* I! H- q% z- K; R
• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
3 X& c4 d$ ^. j# Q$ I) j& e4 X3 E: F• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office. b- ^ n$ g' I. Q% V
• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required
, x# U5 \9 F8 |3 _# w& h• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment
) g7 s; L! _. n• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services" M. [0 Z+ S- H7 ~. i
• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency
/ e% A, |4 L# R( y2 a• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW
$ s( ^7 h( e9 c3 p1 g6 i• Promote English language services for TFW and employers
( M4 `& X% l& g8 I8 S• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required5 q& w9 J5 e" n
• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers
4 P1 q( Y) u* ]# r. k+ ~( A• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:
( X7 U% i8 L5 Q5 t" C, q• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
+ _, X- l+ _& l- f( d• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
) q% j1 k! p$ L1 K) c+ E• Excellent written and oral communication skills
, [$ A5 d! t$ z/ {( D6 I• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
& S3 D0 f: o$ r3 o4 @+ X+ c• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making% h6 r$ E2 b7 f' s- q) {! Q2 F
• Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages
