/ t' J; w% L7 D8 Y* j0 m! B% R6 X  xThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

The project will focus on the following aspects of newcomers settlement services:
• Marketing and outreach to industry and workers
7 X. ^6 D0 u. P5 V• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”
• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”
• Interpretation and translation services
• Supportive counselling services

4 u# m$ M/ u0 a  X4 \' kThe Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement
1 T  X' x+ ~! Z: n& w7 I) c2 Xguidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign
5 b5 q& O1 P" h) ~Workers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and
$ o' E& [* J. U, r2 Msupportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.

" ~5 P% H) C1 @/ O9 l+ F2 SThe Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and
; P0 _! r! @2 h8 F( o8 R& ]orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.
Workshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and
  x1 k: b& Z2 \# Z1 scommunity based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is
: t* o" I3 |  q4 v8 Krequired. The ability to work flexible hours is essential.

0 ~) \0 g' k1 S  B7 j6 m8 zunderstanding of temporary foreign worker settlement issues, being innovative and
implementing solutions for TFW facing a variety of challenges. It also involves

Responsibilities
- h& I8 F3 c6 S$ q1 S• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals
4 ~- M6 K4 B. F% m7 G• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
1 J8 D0 X/ k( O3 s) b• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office
7 R" L' c, m9 x• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required
• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment
4 \+ P: j# F% H3 H8 x3 O• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services
• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency
$ p1 s$ m; `1 s8 i# Z* x9 T/ `• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW
( u/ C! u% l' H9 r3 I( K• Promote English language services for TFW and employers

• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers
1 c9 w4 {5 W' q; |• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:
• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
! w; |) F' U' r+ |5 V• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
& ^' R# h  b# }& @5 L) T• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
! q9 O$ n  Q" x, H: \" ^, E  s• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making
- S* D) B( ?1 w1 g& u• Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages
• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
