- Q/ m  A" x; D# J: _5 nThe Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers requires a fulltime Settlement Practitioner to deliver settlement services for Temporary Foreign Workers in the Edmonton region. This is a term position to March 31, 2010.

• Marketing and outreach to industry and workers
• Outreach delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”
• Centre-based delivery of “orientation, information and referral services”

Position Description:
7 y7 L: h+ N/ E* z/ {The Settlement Practitioner will be a front line practitioner, providing settlement
guidance, information, orientation and referral services for Temporary Foreign
2 X  |( t6 u( F5 u9 J, L, LWorkers, including matters of employment, housing, language, immigration and
; r+ h) L! X" b7 ?supportive counselling by telephone, emails and in-person.

The Settlement Practitioner will also be required to deliver information and
/ E4 W& @5 q) F; ?orientation workshops related to settlement needs of Temporary Foreign workers.
7 K% b1 o0 E% dWorkshops and group sessions will be centre-based, employer/industry based and
community based. Some internal and outreach weekend workshop facilitation is
! F& k( c& h5 v8 Urequired. The ability to work flexible hours is essential.

: W) r2 U7 @- _9 H  HThis position involves working as part of a team to provide services, create an
understanding of temporary foreign worker settlement issues, being innovative and
implementing solutions for TFW facing a variety of challenges. It also involves
; \  m- P& w% `, Jmaintaining all information and records required by the program guidelines.

• Provide a detailed needs assessment of TFW’s referred from EMCN staff,other service providers, industry employers, as well as self-referrals
• Establish and maintain relationships between EMCN, other service providers and industries employing temporary foreign workers and promote settlement services at EMCN
• Maintain close relationships with the Temporary Foreign Worker Advisory Office
+ q1 L; A" p( a3 @* d7 X+ P• Provide counselling to help temporary foreign workers adjust to Canadian life,make referrals when appropriate, develop needs assessment and action plans if required
: ?- Y8 s# h( F7 s2 C" l9 }• Assist people to fill in application forms, prepare for meetings or appointments relating to settlement or employment
• Take clients to view apartments, open bank accounts, register for healthcare and become familiar with community services
• Assess and refer individuals experiencing critical or complex immigration and employment difficulties to appropriate service provider or government agency
• Facilitate and coordinate delivery of workshops related to settlement of TFW
2 r# z6 _7 x& A• Promote English language services for TFW and employers
• Arrange interpretation and translation services as required
• Strengthen and build supports with community groups and volunteers
• Provide service delivery duties as required Desired skills, education and experience:
" m* t3 c. x  a* U• Minimum of 2 years of previous experience as a Settlement Practitioner in an intercultural/multicultural/cross-cultural context
2 @- Q2 }! ]* L• Relevant post-secondary education in social science or human service area
% t9 [& b9 m  J0 F/ g8 v• Excellent written and oral communication skills
, l4 N9 O" u7 j7 w$ A( `. Q" {• Strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers and to working in an intercultural environment with cultural competence
, v7 C! ~/ O( P+ E2 H' ?• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based workplace, demonstrating flexibility in organizing work, showing initiative,judgment, resourcefulness, good decision-making
• Proficiency in English is essential, as is fluency in other languages
• Spanish language proficiency is an asset
