Duties

0 [: h A# R/ L * Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis- Z/ C, f; C0 x3 `/ c7 ~$ {4 c; r0 y
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography2 q4 J& J3 X9 `9 X! Z4 ?
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques- j" ~' a' d6 P+ E% _) l$ M$ r
* Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client) q1 b3 J6 F a* Q( K L5 h
* Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry. o4 g3 |- z) X( a8 X
* Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals
) e+ M( H2 T$ ?/ u- i * Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab+ b) B! v) U. x' O5 `
* Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices! q, S; x9 H9 }
* Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)+ s# i* Z4 y9 {) S/ l' r
" P* r1 X& u3 j+ _0 a$ gQualifications- R X0 l6 S/ i# ~7 V' [
! v% i b; s w1 A; @/ V( @ |8 V * Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
! {4 V/ R8 |6 [2 ^7 O7 |3 N * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)& m# g* d+ v; h7 s# s
* Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel
) ], k+ W6 z( c * A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures1 v, U" h! M" a9 ~4 d6 q+ ^
* Experience conducting routine maintenance on standard rock sample preparation equipment6 n* [8 v# V2 {9 m" J4 \2 s f
