As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience.

' K$ R% U; X6 E! x) O5 YReporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
4 m" b/ L% ^7 s•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
9 }) c( v7 y0 N* M' r•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements5 G2 O0 \+ E% N" b9 s
•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module/ L) B3 H& s$ o) ~9 \& q
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's9 w- j+ i: P$ e9 ?+ s  T" H# M* k
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 8 ~4 N1 |9 r/ w& Z
Job Requirements:  $ J+ v" D2 L: M& I8 z5 G9 c5 G& \
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
3 @: R# Y) g3 q( o•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
- A6 m5 p" [* N- H2 h, V) k9 M* Q•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
% q7 D3 M1 d. e$ J•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems
, E/ ^4 |$ f" w9 Q0 s•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets  K, k- p1 r2 q. z
•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies( V  w+ n/ ?) M( Q8 n" K
•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST

9 a/ U  ~( s# p( ~Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
