As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months.  The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. ) P2 u( q! B$ }: S; d. L
" z# u! j  E9 H% L5 \) J# I) R6 _: o
Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records.  This may include:
( Y) f/ Y! c( s! W1 {7 o•        Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment5 c, _* t! j' ]+ ]3 ?/ d; p
•        Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements
6 w0 K- w6 f6 z! d•        Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module. @- M# O3 b. N# z; F$ {6 o. s
•        Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's% u* p- d+ M# ^4 |0 I* s7 {6 G$ j
•        Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 4 q' @; n1 F6 j3 d/ X
Job Requirements:  + B6 Y$ v8 L% F& l: ]
•        University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline5 T8 u  @% a! w2 N
•        Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset
& V4 p1 Y9 a9 [& d, v4 V  U•        Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
* V: I) I0 c3 H+ @! T: u) |1 r•        A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems7 k, S; N6 E0 R$ Z" d
•        Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets
$ _5 I3 d5 B; z! I% z; L•        Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies
3 E* `. K! \8 u+ J/ k1 b8 H+ p/ s•        A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST- I$ r2 I$ V1 C  w( H/ U1 u2 ]
•        Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hours of work program.
