May 9 2008 - Statistics Canada reports that the unemployment rate rose to 6.1% in April even though employment increased by an estimated 19,000 over the month as more people entered the job market. Calculated in the U.S. manner, the participation rate reached 64.5% in April. ; @) u" \ {6 D" V8 x& X* N' `
* E! }, H$ m- W7 v# i- gOnly Manitoba registered significant jobs growth during the month. Overall, the decline in manufacturing jobs continues as a major trend with 112,000 factory jobs lost since April 2007.
