4 V2 c! s& j/ `( j- BThe Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

, v' R% O1 o$ c" E. iResponsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
0 ]2 V4 \- F1 A" K• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
7 f) f0 H/ z5 S• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

9 \  e( @3 ~& J# s1 M9 j2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
! i$ a+ |! V& N' n. R* W9 Q• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

% N% s3 @$ W0 a) KCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
