The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
) J2 F: w2 @9 y/ h8 I. j/ ubring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based, J8 |6 l/ K8 X+ G2 h
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
. k( g& J9 H! C* g# ~/ ?4 ^program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that3 i( A. A {" k' ^- [* G7 ~3 Z3 k
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
]( v$ h2 ~# l, UYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
6 z$ Z8 Z" g+ smission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
3 X8 f8 j6 ?- e5 N N2 Z& x* @, Jconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
8 R- \" k* |+ D$ v) LVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills' ?1 m' i, ]9 h$ y# @3 ?# j( g
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve! _+ x0 A6 H! u
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose, H4 K F+ v' D- `
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment0 w1 g9 ^. Q# U8 |
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and- [6 X5 B+ G' g( R5 B1 f- i
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and1 ?3 _( n) v) d7 C% ?
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
# q% S( K f0 v$ z6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
. e" G& P2 ~) c# ~ tThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central( f8 N7 w6 n0 \5 R i2 ?0 t
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
! t7 O& P3 z7 n" ]' ZThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

# U2 y W4 p: tEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)# F& c K- i/ A- ]) G8 {
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
& v3 M! X7 `. S2 N. g( Ycommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
N3 v# a- \& qwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities* [5 w8 M! f4 Q" p# Y0 p6 v! R% F
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as+ [* X5 ?- H3 I1 w) f, {4 y
being realistic to each youth participant! a. w, j& W* S+ Z% [
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the; t8 W" F; V% Z5 h2 K
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to; f0 i1 p/ c+ W
each participant! s; b+ D, }( @ ~
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
0 Q/ D6 R/ [, c: J7 { v9 Pcover letters and resumes etc.3 }. b. i4 o( x6 i/ K3 s/ s
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work# n) L2 e& `3 L- S# b
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
+ Q2 U v$ L+ V# i" [placements
6 v3 O! Z7 |! X, T• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating" u8 u% [/ b, I0 S4 I
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
9 y, y( d: F/ W• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach6 u0 ^$ V- e9 z" d0 v
is being fulfilled for each youth
% U& B `# k$ ^( V* U+ M( z: k• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
( A5 {9 n: {7 ~6 I1 `" krelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project: ?0 l* Q8 I s! m
• Other tasks as they arise within the position' W* I: K2 z! |; \# U$ E4 L
Experience Required: Employment Developer
% {: U3 H; i9 m& p" ?' v1 V Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted7 a( M+ t" X1 ?# F8 |
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
; R( e3 ]; N/ j" ?4 o# @ Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed' D5 i0 X1 L# q6 |+ H6 G

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth( q2 G9 ^: s2 F) k

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
