: ?6 E' Q3 b8 T: }3 P3 _$ vThe YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
' \5 i- U) g; E" Xemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
. m. q6 F. t# x' D5 [" W7 u2 z6 \stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
* z# ]5 n7 Y: c) S5 J8 mconflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
6 n2 q, _5 S. T' z6 `. @VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
0 G# k& B9 M/ |( D, q8 ^) N1 Unecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
6 X( v% Z# U8 Q* L. H8 Adevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
( S9 f5 s6 @) vYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
3 x' A- `" R3 A. ]4 p0 J. h9 P& Iwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
being realistic to each youth participant
& l/ t9 }0 f0 N• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
+ B0 c+ W% v6 veach participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
1 i: }3 f; l: T2 z. J! Dcover letters and resumes etc.
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
) B% d/ S+ m6 n  S; Nexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the

2 Q3 F2 p: ]8 Y% |0 I" _2 {• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
) r/ a0 z0 w1 O! z3 c/ [: F# Xis being fulfilled for each youth
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
; J3 t5 C- p5 Y5 p! h( P  T' M6 {related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
/ Q7 \  m6 ^0 G. jExperience Required: Employment Developer
5 g: `: m0 x( {  ^( O+ w2 H3 ] Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
  e: j6 g+ L& T; Q A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and
time management.

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
 Strong leadership and active listening skills
 Ability to motivate youth
