bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based( A' R9 ~3 V1 a' E, @# S
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
" d/ x: t$ v# \ n2 E1 u- ?8 o/ hprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that5 B! r9 X5 E$ a. j) N- O
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
! j" D; O6 C+ T* mYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
$ y4 s( e- q' l5 \. J$ g; S# p" E# {mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve: b; G, |* d- b/ `
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
- n' w% ` |1 J" `VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills' I# L5 m3 N4 M: b/ R! m/ \% J( U" m
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve, [, \; T4 B8 p9 w/ b5 g: R
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose) F& y7 `9 ?, v: C" t3 Q
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment3 r) v9 M8 e# h7 x) ]
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
( X9 e: m: m1 Z+ D3 Fexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and$ T) v4 @( G- M1 x8 _
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a! G2 N/ A; Y+ Q- h ?. q% J# O
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
7 F4 S4 a) j. o7 y6 _& IThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central+ ?: K+ E3 L, T3 O* T, v9 p1 ^
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.6 a/ n' [2 [. O& j/ r
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of7 s) n3 o9 i; Q- N8 n
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

7 ^ {* X# [0 ~! R- g6 vEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
5 X/ J6 a u9 J! S4 y* X+ p• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the# ~( g8 q! O9 A+ [- T
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are" P4 b6 `" Z) V
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
3 M9 H/ a+ c! ], B, z) r• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
8 {& E. U( p# S1 R! ebeing realistic to each youth participant! _. |. v. w5 ~- H. k8 n" T
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the: e# _, \2 V/ x
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
6 A& _" F, m6 M0 B! _) ^5 v7 [each participant
* Q+ K+ v: ?. F" [" i# z8 E% D• Assist youth with employment development including the development of9 w/ ^1 E: r8 @, Y3 N$ c# m
cover letters and resumes etc.# x4 O, m1 q/ m8 Y# e/ z
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
8 m) ]( ^+ b4 yexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
: Q0 f7 K3 \6 ], \" _. A9 r6 t8 iplacements
1 F, B5 T: N) `4 J6 Q& l• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
) ~; ]* c8 x* L/ F6 U" Rthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
9 N( q: H5 Z' C8 B, l' Z• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach7 A |& m. o1 p( Y9 _' `
is being fulfilled for each youth
9 o4 d2 ?$ L- z# S- e• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are

• Other tasks as they arise within the position+ G/ v$ I _1 \/ }" E0 q2 i9 M
Experience Required: Employment Developer
1 G7 d0 ?$ ^& I2 v" B$ S+ H' P% a! I Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted; _ x5 ?* ?4 b2 q0 g7 b8 G8 ~
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
0 j( O9 M) ~; e) i Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed8 f2 O0 L r1 c' q

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.- W( C$ b; o# T! h) W7 n3 }3 F4 ~
 Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, organizational and

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment% t" X' H, i! ?$ f0 H6 }
 Strong leadership and active listening skills
