The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will2 [" k. k0 d% s: e7 k4 [5 G
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based3 ~( ] Q7 I, i% H* e0 f( h# ]
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day6 E5 X7 S- Y2 o9 y% H$ W" b
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
8 E% w, c! W& I* [5 [5 J4 `2 lstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
5 A8 r0 k4 ~8 H: `' M, D3 \; MYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
8 t" I- S, k1 j; q6 T6 amission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve4 @2 d: G Z2 M# Y
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
' G2 s. C1 i3 r( X5 w- V" ], dVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
3 K7 \) n& D( Q, ~$ S5 D& s+ hnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
) T& i! c2 I# q2 m v. X: j: S9 cyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose* u0 S8 G: J1 b9 W! F
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
" i: `4 \; n$ }development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and S& x1 Y0 e V/ k; i, `/ }2 \
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and- `2 T) O4 n2 A% y% [* @0 `6 Q
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a8 c& I7 j4 S* ^. ?2 s
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
: [8 ^' p1 O1 b# E: a, _- n- vThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
6 p) v" \; v8 p$ d, ^YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
# V3 p6 A- k1 y( B5 ~0 {3 ^, S) aThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
4 D7 s8 P4 U3 t1 S/ r• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the) y4 ^( C9 ^7 c7 X
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are$ h- G$ @& K1 I( Y6 N
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
& E. q6 r" Y& Y9 |# |" q4 h• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
$ U, @/ n4 \+ d8 rbeing realistic to each youth participant
' v& d$ U, W8 M+ y D& x• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
H6 ~& y/ a7 j4 _+ j0 @+ ]' Z% `youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
4 n+ [$ m7 ^) _0 `each participant' `% j% B$ y" j" G A$ o3 S! E/ b
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of4 N: {# X' e' h4 e3 A# }. z
cover letters and resumes etc.
. J3 [6 ]8 t/ h9 |8 X• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
& X9 |) s8 ~# i( e8 D$ P: p, `2 vexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
) u1 ~4 C6 y% `* N% f$ ^- c yplacements
. z, v# x" U! n! Q: x7 Y• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating) R0 l; S, I5 Y6 P
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
& @2 Q$ \2 j: k! g! h5 L1 N• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach: t! g: V& S" R' {5 ^
is being fulfilled for each youth3 Q7 g8 G: I0 S0 n6 _+ s1 ?
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are, Y9 S/ V; Y) X$ u, U
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project. N$ f" O* \1 u
• Other tasks as they arise within the position

 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.
