The VERTO Project

+ F6 K5 _$ v2 c% l% z0 jbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
4 n, p. ~: w) n/ G5 }employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
! u9 e! p, O; R- hprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that& Y: k: I5 V; S; O
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.- E9 ~4 |1 Y% e0 L6 z" ]% a
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
% \0 b Y( z" G! f' }mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
, ~& V3 ^- n' \# _% Econflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
% V& Q) L/ N& P: @6 e5 ?VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
! y j" O9 R/ k% O$ C, Jnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
6 O& A M6 J7 ~6 \youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose7 `" a6 e! X% }& K+ |/ o
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
5 O# p' i6 m/ G8 @development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
' s' Y7 \/ p2 E5 nexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and4 }7 G" S( k; y- m5 c3 L5 r( M
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a. C! T$ H$ {; Y3 z- u5 i
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
1 n( F" {4 w; V/ d: V( h2 A: w! TThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central: \7 m# x& q( N- x! D0 u* b
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
& p- H* }* Z5 \* _! gThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)4 }4 `$ _5 F) @! ]2 Q1 g5 y% W# J* k
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
: Y: q. _, @5 Dcommunity to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are) I+ _8 H9 L( e
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
* a7 d. ~2 ^ `2 {• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
/ ]; Y, V4 h6 B* lbeing realistic to each youth participant3 X6 f% U1 ^1 X/ B9 V. _; |- a
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
/ R2 F" Z* D# y% k7 W( qyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
7 x6 ~/ Q7 t- N7 U3 Veach participant9 f& X0 ~1 z$ R; {7 X4 |$ C! ~* F, A1 m
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
. B+ c- {! a% l1 T2 Z& Q# c1 `2 R9 `cover letters and resumes etc.
" k& P( ~( y% d) h* h$ @• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work( B/ H1 {: e: W! I
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the, q/ t2 G# W1 P: h# ^
placements
. K( P, e& M$ {• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating* L5 u1 B2 U. e
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
+ Z @( _# l) x% P% [• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach3 Q! X9 Y, _9 D; Y" {
is being fulfilled for each youth
! C3 ^9 b1 n, q4 ^• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are

• Other tasks as they arise within the position

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
