4 I* Z/ h& x6 ?! n5 UEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.7 r1 Y9 G7 t) k/ v ~

$ r& @1 {0 {! P- m/ |8 ?• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.& P! e0 C6 y# U5 h2 W" q
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers., b5 }4 v% c7 [7 y5 G5 ?! g2 ^
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
% ^* k. _5 \: t, p N• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. , _* \: g. a0 e3 @4 @
• Ensure the safety of all passengers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:( x$ ]; J! {; Z
• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.- G4 b4 }/ k% h# r
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability , P, Q4 l; W6 \" x/ H, p) g" m
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger ) E* i( [# g& u! T0 m3 B* W4 v

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).6 ]4 n5 C( g8 B$ h- J5 x$ D
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
8 T- t! S: m3 r: r( y" Z, p• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
% O; O* L2 e6 n# |% i/ c1 c- V0 C• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
" `- w: s4 Q1 o1 S0 e ]showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 4 n; ]8 n* G* |' v! W. i% R: a
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill . v8 x$ s! C4 p. ]# T/ ]8 N
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

L. H E) h- l0 X• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:; k3 M. a& R2 V" u: h
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week ( j# b, O: H% }7 K2 R: I
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly( [1 G& R! |& i
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly7 V' @& Q; i) i" |% c! }& a
Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
) m: _% L! A7 Y% O$ NThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
