$ a6 h: Q8 b$ T( e3 T; h" F" DEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
8 B+ P6 z+ l& s•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
: ]3 ^/ Y8 f% [+ C% b•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
+ k' e  [7 h$ D' m+ Sto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
. f! r" i: V2 r( N3 q$ Q2 ]•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
  r; z  b2 Z/ {; J! d  h- r$ u•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
( x! J3 E% q0 M7 @showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
  {" ~1 Y- `6 D" k2 x9 ^, H•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
% O0 J7 T; i" r. a' }1 H" ~8 i•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

1 L5 I1 J0 c/ i, y9 tHOURS OF WORK:
1 c, i5 q, x3 {Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
- e) u6 n, r* d* ^- FThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
