[1 E6 \& Z. m- r: D' L4 |Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.# {8 S6 `# P& N% [3 F( t1 i
& x' v( |9 r* f9 a7 ~5 R- vFUNCTIONS:
/ S6 m- d5 V& D9 E" q" J* k" u• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
" Z) _7 j% e% a/ j( W( q6 y• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
5 e& k1 Q/ g3 I/ x• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.- |; w! t$ S1 j" I# @
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 7 t2 V$ ~& k4 k" D9 g9 o
and traffic conditions.

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:6 H$ J+ i1 p+ v* C7 x& W) R9 u
• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
" R+ M( X2 B+ y+ u) }7 k/ u* v• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 3 Q8 S0 M) B5 G4 v r, j
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger ) I% q* G9 t8 t2 ~# g
of the day.
6 A) W% X- J6 @3 }7 g& Z, P• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
$ A) {/ J! q8 u, O& v• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
3 ]0 V$ l0 y8 V. _9 n• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
* d: X; J- c! v( }& A# C3 g7 m• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
. O3 ?+ _( m: m6 r! B. wshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
2 m! t4 a2 A- F) d• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill ' U, i3 P/ L3 H# K
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week " K" ^) v' }& a; k( p9 ]
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
/ m0 J3 k- S# P% g, {Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly: Z3 H7 V6 X! v
2 U7 n: M- h' i i$ x1 k) J, ySALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004 4 G6 H) f m7 o' h
Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly
5 Z$ J) S. @- q8 k% Y K& M+ }Post Training Rate: $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly# f8 E# y4 Y1 E' z6 a" H8 S
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.! C2 o& @2 y9 G: y0 w4 l: m
