Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.3 V' m8 I6 |! f

% l" V& X- W4 h2 sFUNCTIONS:
1 Q& K/ N& I# c8 W0 Y•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
( y1 J0 d/ k) u; i1 p+ ]  w•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
5 ^0 j& |- P3 R- f- f•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
6 Y  I) H7 A) m) y7 @8 S5 D•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.- m7 k: Q# J: O. A+ V6 {7 T7 j
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. , S8 g4 c" @0 t
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.

! q0 \) b/ N) C•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

% ]* j, [& o' s  z* iJOB REQUIREMENTS:" ^+ B7 a( a* h. G- r
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
1 z4 u2 X  E% H•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
9 R4 n. T% o3 i; a7 S& Dto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
- g9 o( m0 J6 a" V: H$ Dof the day.+ }4 V- i, O% j) o+ V1 u4 u/ c
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
) S6 E3 c) W& I: U•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
4 `& R; q+ j& \5 d' u0 u•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
! ]) X! z) |* x. q  ~3 i. s•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) ' k/ \: \  j; _  J: ~3 R3 j
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. . s! A- j+ b5 D" q
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
, v9 k0 d' R5 o8 p* \2 Yvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
! E  ?! }  L& K3 |•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
+ Z# v+ H! |' `( ^% h" @3 h•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.
/ A6 w! x' l. k! i. k! X$ x) g: }0 y2 Y7 @  p& s
HOURS OF WORK:
6 q/ ?* L; C/ \4 T1 ~# M- C$ dVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
' Q+ {0 h" V  i8 ^8 q5 I3 q1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
9 s0 Z4 j, N9 b  h; r" F* ]/ ~Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
0 S1 j* B1 c1 z$ L' B0 m. X* L, Y1 K/ c7 L0 F
SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
( Y0 K  e2 P4 Z) F* ?Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
! L% i9 _0 E9 |8 \Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly' i% e" M& g% X. o5 Z/ f/ w7 v. r
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.6 v6 F4 C3 o, L6 u- x  @
