CHIEF RETURNING OFFICER

JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
, g1 Q/ _+ ]9 g* G, M2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
0 l) m& a' |* }1 xyear following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000

2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

8 {* j. w0 d8 ~& h+ X8 ~3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.

+ s8 f+ z' O9 z' Q4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
- D5 s/ n! B8 r/ a& Aadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
: t7 K2 ~* @# ]9 v  [referenda.

7 y$ n& ^' R5 M+ o: ]3 N( _8 h6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
# |. V' g& |5 r  s( kparties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
referendum.

6 J. u: N: a2 Q' V  f  r$ d' E To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
% C$ \- l& ~8 B8 C% y9 w2 DBylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
% F; e4 K  A7 z; Xfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
the course of an election/referendum.

3 D- _4 Y7 d2 i4 H; i2 W8 O12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
of activities and recommendations.

6 p) w: k) h1 e1 R! w- k14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
: h) ]8 M$ T/ T' m) ?of campaigning.

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council

QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
2 E8 O2 D6 U" p7 vfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
Union member.

8 ?2 j4 O: U' X( N2) Must have some experience in student elections.

3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
# Q* D  X! Q% W/ p' B8 v$ U- W1 lany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
1 V1 Q, D0 r2 R& f& v% E7 O( Q( Bwith the Students' Union.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University
