8 x' W  G; C! X4 O" tJOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
: H/ q9 L/ ?; c' `* wthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  4 L" f5 R' U7 ^( s, ]+ f, E
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  + {" B6 D+ j" Q$ r0 Z! O8 |! ~: @
Council in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  6 S' F2 @) Y( M: C" i
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
+ y( H3 o- s+ V$ r5 i- Ryear following their appointment.

- t) ]( ^8 @" P* E  XDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20002 W3 C2 e6 t6 y

0 P  \" l; k3 j/ d( c1 w2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.1 R* M' X3 G$ K% U; f) \
* v2 E  e3 H: ^# r5 U
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.! I" T( {' u6 `- a$ K' U

: \9 y. U7 U4 l' l: C6 d3 s. Y& X4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  8 F$ V) S3 T5 I% [" r
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  . _7 L' f; L1 i" W! ]% g# g/ V+ `
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.
+ B, U$ o- b7 b3 c  u8 g
/ J( x& O4 Y1 X: T6 Z5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
. d1 G5 P: }2 D# \- c( }referenda.
3 q& v# g3 S7 ~7 _# K! Q+ [" W* _/ a- F& t
6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  ! p4 w; v" {. S! Y, z! t. [
parties.
! [' t! u4 C( |4 H" X4 b* ^
# O% S/ F; u/ y# E7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ , }* L# ?+ E/ e
referendum.

' c/ W3 @! L0 A8 L0 @  W To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
7 \, o+ C8 M  g  x) [% rBylaw 2000.

2 Z4 |  ^+ _9 X. g0 J, ^) L10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
5 K3 w( [0 d( m7 ]3 t( L  `. s" xminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
6 |3 C; L6 `% `) [4 E, J$ M; Ffrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
* E1 O' f+ T, M- qof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.2 ?+ h, a! p* q# @- G
3 p5 a7 M" K- ^* h- M  l/ O  z
11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  ) L  q) a3 s* H  V+ x
the course of an election/referendum.! O: s6 c# {6 P; O1 q

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  & l: m* d8 m, R5 M5 E. ?+ v9 ~
process is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  8 q+ {% m6 K% E. o6 ^8 G
of activities and recommendations.2 _- Z3 z3 r; V

2 W( i; [, q- U8 ?8 d) F14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  0 O2 Q" \$ Z1 k( H9 `
of campaigning.

2 f' L8 f% M6 R& x8 i15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  6 [+ g8 B2 H: o& u7 {6 H
Administration Committee.

) }: l  u' b6 b& P# ]3 x0 l1 {4 D) R1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  % ~6 v) O5 ~4 y& \2 n
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  ! J( M9 M4 `0 W, @: L
Union member.
( B: O2 @( k7 |" K% r( C. O1 Z6 V9 [- p
2) Must have some experience in student elections.) q: J# B3 [; U5 T
; E& X7 A" |  |
3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
3 I0 ?/ Z4 [4 M: fany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  $ E1 c8 X7 [8 C
with the Students' Union.

% S7 D% p* {/ U6 H& G4 g" T0 P5 u4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
