JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
" T+ q/ K: j( o/ }the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  2 U6 Z: u) N8 Z7 s0 p" S
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
2 Y; }% _' o/ K4 y' ~7 ACouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  " Z; \" W5 c' K9 n( i9 O
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
4 E% e: A; C. _# iyear following their appointment.8 z6 c+ R- k0 t4 Q( z

0 G- q* ]3 T: ~! P5 yDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000- p+ f. @% g4 }* j3 I+ ~% d7 W

2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.) v3 k+ ^" F7 J3 t4 d

" C) ?8 n& ~; o3 l' @' W0 s& o3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.9 {3 h0 Y1 ], l& f: F! X

' M; V8 R6 i9 r4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
' Y! w# q4 J# ?$ ~adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  & f0 g* j9 a% I
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.) n* X- ]3 r* H( @6 Y. |! P' g

8 t( q& L9 `8 m, ~! u, Q5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ & v4 E) `+ m. _
referenda.7 O5 b* f, B& F. |

* `2 l, [, j  g  W7 [6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  0 B! x" f7 ?4 Z
parties.1 j! o! L. k; \, `# r# h5 w

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
/ q* u: l9 ~/ hreferendum.! |2 C+ e% O2 x9 B

$ n, V4 x' g5 b; S$ M To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  + M, b( S: o5 u" [5 S( Q1 M+ a! {% I' q
Bylaw 2000." m% f5 E1 Z4 [( m$ F+ n" T

& T7 D$ q) ^5 p0 W$ d" i3 ^9 E10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
, B% H$ ]" V9 K, s* ]; D. Hminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
: ~0 M$ r9 E0 H4 Q% w0 Pfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
7 L! l2 j5 l0 A' g% v7 Q5 F: xof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  & q; o/ n+ F$ N: B1 Y+ N
the course of an election/referendum." n# M  A9 y* z7 R1 K" M

12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
/ W) H* n8 J! j2 Hprocess is in place.$ S7 H4 t: \3 [( b

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
( M$ }0 P9 A/ z- h+ _2 f/ d" K6 O' dof activities and recommendations." `! k6 F) t: F' X% e

14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  0 p3 u: R9 b; J  L4 m2 E2 o+ Y

$ z$ N, B$ _8 c9 t' A0 P1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  . H# q7 Z9 @* k
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
! u( g# G; L6 g2 S" \: Y$ DUnion member.

) ^. ]* S, V6 X4 \9 g2) Must have some experience in student elections.0 N4 z/ I) O. ]+ H! `

+ V1 a2 L: v" u0 t3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  - B7 ]: Y, d7 m6 Q! d$ d
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  5 j" f) P1 Y& w# Q5 Q& Z
with the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Excellent project management skills are required.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  : ?# Y5 T5 \# w( D% Z
