EDMONTON — Southgate Centre today began a $108 million expansion to accommodate more than 30 new retailers and restaurants.7 H7 |8 d- o0 |. c4 L2 X3 h( k
1 Q. P1 @( S0 d7 k0 i/ t6 h g/ ~The two-year project, facing 111th Street, will add 126,000 square feet of leasable space on the ground floor — and two levels of parking above.

“Part of the redevelopment will include enhanced site lighting and closed-circuit TV security systems monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge.

It also will include hotel-quality washrooms and private sitting rooms for nursing mothers.

The expansion is expected to create at least 500 new full-time and part-time jobs.
