TORONTO -- Sun Life Financial Inc. said Monday it is retiring the Clarica brand as part of a revised marketing strategy.
& }2 T: _9 A) G+ s* dClarica was introduced in 1999 by Mutual life of Canada, and was acquired by Sun Life three years later.
4 s8 C* `8 w" F7 O# ?2 _There are almost two million Clarica policy- and accountholders in Canada, said Sun Life. Clarica also has a sales force of about 3,500.1 P8 A ]: F) a# R* T6 V# { K

The company said the changes will be completed by the first quarter of 2008. Sun Life will incur a $40-million to $50-million charge in the first quarter of 2007.+ `7 u1 \9 U( j# l+ G% S) Q
"The Sun Life name is also well known and highly respected in many other markets around the world," said Sun Life chief executive Don Stewart.
