The Liberals’ first federal budget was released earlier this week, and in it $570-million dollars was allocated for Canada’s tourism sector.

Royce Chwin, the CEO of Travel Alberta, tells the Alberta Morning News how some of that money will be spent right here in Alberta.& c& v, K1 r! q2 Z/ e" n5 N

“$83.3-million, in terms of free admission for national parks, so that of course will apply here in Banff and Jasper as an example. It also looks like there’s an investment of about $66-million for new biking and walking trail within Jasper National Park.”

Chwin adds that with the low Canadian dollar he expects we’ll see more Albertan’s traveling within our borders, rather than heading to the States.

“In terms of taking advantage of what’s here, we have made adjustments and improvements to the Canada website, from Travel Alberta. That’s going to show a number of itineraries and road trips throughout the province. Those are great suggestions for Albertans or other Canadians who decide to take a staycation, and want to see something new and different.”
