5 n- v3 p9 S# vAn Edmonton-based trucking coming is facing $3 million dollars worth of fines under the Traffic Safety Act for allegedly operating overweight vehicles on city roads.( f8 Y! `+ q4 q) l* v2 C: `' r2 \# _( N
A police investigation revealed that between August 15 and September 19, the unnamed company made 1,907 trips to the waste management facility located on Yellowhead Trail and 170 Street.
% S: n; G0 ?- x& Q) b7 GPolice say the trucks were transporting loads that were overweight by a least one tonne each visit. One truck was recorded as being 17.9 tonnes overweight.+ x& u' u1 z* @1 w |7 H
"The company is facing a fine of just over $3 million dollars," said EPS Const. Dave Beattie. "It's a big fine, I'll give you that, but for the police it's not about the value of the fine, it's about keeping these roads safe."9 {6 ?2 M2 G0 n# y( Q
Beattie explains that with overweight vehicles, braking can be a problem.
