　　North country scene:

0 p3 x6 ]* e  a9 g& ]: N$ X　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

/ o$ n6 f& z/ M2 @( v1 y　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

5 [- \) Q& {( v　　One single white immensity.
8 n0 u8 e% }# c( g! e
/ ~& m) ^$ s  o+ R　　The Yellow River"s swift current
+ \" v) W) e/ r+ u5 J) V0 x
9 b; k% E" Y4 @( H0 R8 P; r+ a　　Is stilled from end to end.
) M0 U- {: E0 q  _! h& T
4 L" q$ Z. \+ ~1 R1 C: m　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

6 B. s. w8 q* R, ?　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

3 q  a- `8 D- \7 L2 T2 s7 g　　On a fine day, the land,

* }) Y5 C7 \8 N　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty

　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

$ i2 I( N. o, V7 L! J/ k! ~' f　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

% @4 i" K4 o) _: a4 b0 q　　Were lacking in literary grace,

　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

+ j3 E; ^3 e0 j8 v$ Z1 M3 z　　Had little poetry in their souls;
　　And Genghis Khan,

　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,
( R0 X5 H; D9 S6 [7 q, {/ z$ c
- P- s1 L- q: U　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched
  i4 K2 I/ i, ?: p
　　All are past and gone!

　　Look to this age alone.
