7 s! F# |$ c! d/ o# T6 M1 pEDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

1 w- i" H- N) i6 F! XThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.* h/ u) P9 g0 ]( G' v
6 H c3 B& A6 u: }. ]- uPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
