EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning., r. p; |* h8 ]' L# v) T
9 |3 S% w- ?+ ~6 FThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.
$ K" z$ f5 [3 v" ~' T' E$ Y% N. n& E& k; d
Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.$ S5 e+ G( {' @2 S' u5 {! Y: m2 t& x

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."& m. C" Q" L, t+ t, c- _
