EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

) c8 U% e+ A9 TThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.7 t" h: l) V6 n( J0 u
2 }" A* X* `2 i V, fPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."" L$ w% d6 H& G6 N) Z$ O V
